Nexon 1.7 Million USD Korean Leagues Announced

A DOTA 2 announcement was not expected at the E3 Expo but now it is announced the eye of the community will turn to Korea. Nexon have announced in a press conference their roadmap for the release of DOTA 2 to in Korea with the biggest part of the news being an investment of 1.7 Million USD worth of prize money for 2013.


This quickly spread through the Korean news websites and details are being translated what is known is the following:

- Global Service (No Server Limitation / Keeping Steam Account,Items,Stats)
- No Timelag on Update
- Korean Amateur/Pro Leagues with overall 2,000,000,000KSW(1.7 Million USD) Prize Money in 2013
- The First Official League 'Nexon Starter League' Coming Soon
- Release on 2013 Fall


There have been extended details about the client features and also comments from us Erik Johnson of Valve supporting the endevour. There were some more details released on another Korean website, Inven, these are the highlights:


- Korean voice work for local version
- Various Leagues (Professional, Amateurs, New players)
- No limitations for 'Nexon Starter League' qualifiers
- Assurances of stable servers from Nexon
- Web-based fuctionality


The first winning team of the competition is said to get not only 8k USD (roughly) but also a 'Special ticket' to spectate the International 2013.

On top of the various leagues there was also mention of 'Event Matches', while the focus is also very heavy on 'Domestic' market. Current players of DOTA 2 in Korea have also been told that their current accounts can choose to transfer their game history to their new accounts or not, this likely hints at a seperate client for Korea, similar to what has been done for the China market.

The press release by Inven mentions "Global team rating system will be a source of entertainment for all teams in the world.", hinting at a possible public team ranking system in the future.
