Valve was reportedly working on a single-player RPG starring Axe. Valve used to have plans for a role-playing game that features our red axe-swinging hero Mogul Khan, the Axe. The idea was revealed in Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx which is an interactive storybook written by Geoff Keighley. The storybook is available on Steam for €8.19 and grants a glimpse behind the scene and additional information on Valve's game development throughout the last decade.

The title focuses on the creation of Half-Life, but it also mentions past ideas the software company had at some point, but decided not to pursuit any further. A lost action RPG surrounding Axe is among those scraped ideas.

The company apparently discussed the idea of creating their first RPG in general, as developer Tejeev Kohli revealed. At one point, the team "experimented with flipping it into a single-player Dota RPG starring Axe".

It seems like the idea was put on hold, since Valve focussed on the development of other titles. However, Dota has already received two spin-offs in the last years: The card game Artifact in 2018 and the auto-battler Dota Underlords in 2019. Perhaps there are even more concepts waiting in line for new Dota related games in different genres.

What do you think: Would you have been excited for a Dota RPG, or do you just want to play the original game?
