The title focuses on the creation of Half-Life, but it also mentions past ideas the software company had at some point, but decided not to pursuit any further. A lost action RPG surrounding Axe is among those scraped ideas.
We almost got a RPG with Axe as main character 😳 pic.twitter.com/jvR3nZKVBs

The company apparently discussed the idea of creating their first RPG in general, as developer Tejeev Kohli revealed. At one point, the team "experimented with flipping it into a single-player Dota RPG starring Axe".
It seems like the idea was put on hold, since Valve focussed on the development of other titles. However, Dota has already received two spin-offs in the last years: The card game Artifact in 2018 and the auto-battler Dota Underlords in 2019. Perhaps there are even more concepts waiting in line for new Dota related games in different genres.
22 years ago I first visited @valvesoftware to write about the making of the original Half-Life. Now, I'm back inside Valve to tell you about the past decade of development in The Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx. Available now on Steam: https://t.co/eDBcBUMfbQ pic.twitter.com/3thYI3rJSj

What do you think: Would you have been excited for a Dota RPG, or do you just want to play the original game?
