One-sided matches and strong supports – Bukovel Day 1

posted by NanaKrustofski,
The most festive of all Dota events begins: the WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020. Between Christmas trees and sweaters, Group A played their first matches. Three teams tweaked their rosters a bit , but so far it has worked out for only for one of them. The event started only about a day after a tragic event. A Ukrainian passenger plane crashed in Iran, leaving no survivors. Due to the shocking events, mourning was announced in Ukraine. WePlay! decided to cancel the preshow and entertainment sections of the first day. The remaining schedule will be maintainend. joinDOTA joins in by sending condolences to the families of those affected by the crash.

NiP vs Geek Fam: coming back to dominate

The opening series of the day was fought among Ninjas in Pyjamas and Geek Fam, which resulted in a 2-0 for Geek Fam.

In game one, Geek Fam pulled off an unconventional comeback. Despite being 14-2 and 8k networth behind, they managed to nearly take over NiP's base a few minutes later and raze most racks and one tier 4 tower at min 30 – just to get wiped out while retreating. This was not a major throwback for Geek Fam at all, they simoy closed the game a few minutes later after demolishing NiP at their Rosh attempt.

Nico 'Gunnar' Lopez's debut as carry on Slark has been rather underwhelming so far. He had problems killing off supports and on top of that, he got caught by Kenny 'Xepher' Deo with a stolen Lasso on Rubick.

Banish, save and punish

Geek Fam played the second game nearly flawlessly and bested NiP from start to finish. Their Shadow Demon and Night Stalker turned out to be a perfect combination: SD banished an opponent and Night Stalker was right there waiting to silence them immediately.

New midlaner Karl Matthew 'Karl' Jayme had a strong 18/1/6 game on Outworld Devourer, already getting a triple kill after a rotation to bottom after only 9 minutes. With SD an OD in one team, Geek Fam also had powerful saves in their hands, making it even harder for NiP to get any kills.

Team Spirit vs RNG: Glimpse back from any chance to win

The second encounter of the day was Team Spirit vs Royal Never Give Up, which ended in a 2-0 for RNG.

Game one was a convincing win for RNG. The MVP of the match was Xue 'September' Zhichuan on his 10/2/13 Disruptor who controlled and disabled the enemy team with his perfect Glimpses.

A swift ending

Spirit were not able to find a better strategy in game two: it ended after only 17 minutes with a 13-4 score for RNG. Spirit's last pick Anti-Mage had no impact at all, whereas Gao 'Setsu' Zhenxiong destroyed Spirit on OD.

Despite being on very low health several times, OD always managed to survive thanks to the impactful backup of Omni Knight and Xie 'Super!' Junhao on IO.

Spirit now have to go up against NiP next, whereas Geek Fam face RNG. Any additional information around the tournament can be found here.
