MDL Chengdu Major Qualifiers – Virtus.Pro fails, Nikobaby prevails

The qualifiers for the first DPC Major of the new season are in full progress – and it is also showtime for the new rosters. In the six regions, the competitors are fighting for a spot in the MDL Chengdu Major, and also for the DOTA Summit 11 Minor. Some predictions have been fulfilled, but so far, the qualifiers also bore surprises. The group stage has been completed and the playoffs lie ahead. 16 teams will end up in the Major, and 8 in the Dota Summit Minor. All qualifier playoffs will be finished by October 8th. It is the first trial for the Post TI9-Roster Shuffle constellations, especially for the freshmen.

North America: Sumail vs EG



Evil Geniuses had an amazing run so far, winning every single map and finishing the second round against Byzantine Raiders in only 15 minutes. The Hassan brothers could also prove themselves with their Quincy Crew stack. It is now up to see if Sumail 'SumaiL' Syed Hassan can prevail over his former team, facing them in the playoffs as their first opponents.



Europe: old Alliance face new Alliance



Team Liquid and Alliance did justice to their role as favourites and took the lead in their respective groups. One of the strongest performances came from Alliance carry Nikolay 'Nikobaby' Nikolov. In his first six maps he scored 67 kills in total, with only 2 deaths. Liquid's Samuel 'Boxi' Svahn also played a notable game with Axe, finishing 23/2/14.





CIS: when the big teams break down



The new Virtus.pro had a disappointing start so far, with a 1-2-1 standing blowing their chance to qualify. Natus Vincere placed even lower without a single win in their group, missing the Dota Summit 11 qualifiers.

Unexpectedly, HellRaisers and AS Monaco Gambit managed to dominate their groups, dropping only one map each.





Southeast Asia: 23savage on the rise



As expected, Fnatic and TNC Predator were the strongest contenders in Southeast Asia, with Adroit being close on the heels. Newcomer Nuengnara '23savage' Teeramahanon continues displaying his convincing potential, and added three wins on Phantom Lancer on his records. Those three teams could all advance to the main event, since the SEA region gets three slots.
