Team Liquid has announced that they benched their legendary starplayer Lasse 'Matumbaman' Urpalainen. With only ten days to go until the EPICENTER Major, this announcement comes as a surprise. Neither Team Liquid nor MATU made a statement about the exact reason for him being benched. According to Liquid's statement on Twitter, "[t]his was a mutual decision and one that we believe is in the best interest of all parties." Furthermore, they will support him to probe for "the ideal next step for him in his career". These cryptic statements leave much room for speculation, and it remains to be seen what the true reason for his removal from the starting roster is, and whether or not this equals his departure from Team Liquid for good.

Replacement unknown

The organisation announced that they reveal his replacement soon, and that they will be "preparing a more fitting tribute to MATU's time on Team Liquid" at a more suitable time. Probably, TL is referring to the upcoming urgency of the EPICENTER Major on which the remaining four players around Amer 'Miracle-' Al-Barkawi will have to focus now.

"Our Dota team's DNA"

In the post, Team Liquid acknowledge MATU's achievements after being three years with the organisation. He won The International 2017 and was an essential of the best TL line-up we've ever seen. There hasn't been many core teams that played as long with as much success as MATU and his team-mates Kuro S. 'KuroKy' Takhasomi, Miracle- and Ivan 'MinD_ContRoL' Borislavov. What steps he is going to take with or without Team Liquid is unclear as yet but we will keep you posted about any new revelations in this matter.
