Team Secret behind expectations

Day 1 of the ESL One Birmingham 2019 delivered some really exciting games, but nothing is set in stone yet. However, Team Secret has not lived up to the high expectations, losing to Evil Geniuses 0-2 and tying with PSG.LGD. Team Secret is undoubtedly still a force to be reckoned with. As reigning ESL One champion, the outfit of Dota legend Clement 'Puppey' Ivanov has won more Majors than any other team this season. Also, one has to take into account that the games against Evil Geniuses were by no means a one-sided affair. The geniuses are one of the few teams out there, which is capable of pulling off this trick.

In their second match against PSG.LGD, Team Secret did not seem to have recovered from the blows they had taken from EG. They lost the first map to the Chinese squad, but managed to save face – and keep their chances to reach the playoffs alive in game two.

EG in a comfortable spot, Group A indecisive

At the end of Day 1, EG has earned a comfortable lead in Group B (4-0). Also PSG.LGD can be content with their second-place finish after the first day, only conceding one map to Team Secret. In Group A, it is much more difficult to determine a clear favourite after the first games. OG is the only team that was able to score a 2-0 victory, which gives them a small edge going into Day 2.

Due to the many ties, the tournament promises to be extremely exciting, and it is safe to assume that we are going to see some really close decisions.

What do you think about Day 1 at the ESL One Birmingham? Who is going to survive the onslaught?
