The ESL One Birmingham 2019 has just started and the quality of games already reached level 'epic'. Especially game two between Vici Gaming and Team Liquid was a real 50-minute nailbiter. Vici Gaming started the series with a dominant victory over Team Liquid. In game one, the Chinese outfit managed to get a commanding lead and finish the gamer after only 22 minutes. While the first game was pretty one-sided, the second one turned out to be an impressive display of skill featuring many scenes and plays you definitely want to watch. With 78 kills, the game went on for almost 50 minutes and was turned on its head several times.

Especially Lasse 'Matumbaman' Urpalainen's Troll Warlord and Amer 'Miracle-' Al-Barkawi's Arc Warden saved the day for Team Liquid. In fact, the game was so close that the former TI champion almost conceded a 0-2.

Round of ties

Also the matches between Ninjas in Pyjamas and OG, as well as Forward Gaming and TNC Predator resulted in ties. With these outcomes, Group A promises to be a close affair. Due to the best-of-two format, we can expect the complex tiebreaker rules of the ESL to determine who is going to the playoffs and who is not, if the series keep on being so well-balanced.

In the second matches, Liquid faces NiP, VG is going to take on TNC, and Forward Gaming has to overcome OG. Group B is going to kick off at 6pm (CEST) with tournament favourite Team Secret against Evil Geniuses.

What do you think about playing the group stage in a best-of-two format?
