Alliance vs. Na'Vi? Team Liquid vs. OG? Which matchup would you consider to be the "El Classico of Dota 2"? Here are our four favourites. During WePlay! Dota 2 Valentine Madness Alliance played against Natus Vincere. It was branded as the "El Classico of Dota 2" because it's the rematch of the most iconic The International Grand Final.

El Classico stands for the rivalry between the two football clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Both Spanish clubs have been fighting over the throne in the Spanish League for a very long time.

Alliance vs. Natus Vincere is obviously one of the most iconic matchups in the Dota 2 history. However, there are more duels that fit this description.

Evil Geniuses - Team Secret

Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev and Ludwig 'zai' Wåhlberg joined Team Secret in January 2015 and from that point on, a new rivalry was born.

A look at Arteezy's career path demonstrates it perfectly: EG -> Secret -> EG -> Secret -> EG. On top of that, Secret vs. EG is the ideal example for the clash between Europe and North America.

Since Team Secret was founded in August 2014, both teams faced each other in 63 matches with a winrate of 60,3% for Team Secret. The last time both teams played against each other was at The Chongqing Major. Team Secret won 2-0 in the Lower Bracket Finals to throw EG out of the tournament.

LGD - Invictus Gaming

However, the true region of the "El Classico" is China. The only "problem": there are more than two teams in the Far East that make a really interesting matchup. One of the most memorable ones is the TI7 Grand Final between Newbee and Vici Gaming.

Teams like DK*, EHOME, Invictus Gaming or PSG.LGD also belong in this special group.

The matchup with the most games played out is LGD vs. iG (188 games). On top of that, the winrate is almost even: iG is leading with 97 wins to 91 on LGD's side - this is a winrate of 51.6% versus 48.4%. The last iconic duel between the Chinese squads was at The International 2017. Both teams had to play against each other in round four of the Lower Bracket. It ended as one of the biggest stomps in TI history.

Liquid - OG

Looking to have a European derby, we decide for Team Liquid vs. OG because for more than one year, both teams were actually fighting for the throne in Dota 2.

The funny part: both were the favourites to win The International 2016, but showed disappointing results in the end. At least now,, almost three years later, both Johan 'BigDaddyN0tail' Sundstein and Kuro S. 'KuroKy' Takhasomi are TI winners.

Of course, there were also several amazing matches between these teams: at The Manila Major, ESL One Frankfurt 2016, EPICENTER: Moscow and The Defense #5. These were top-level games of the two best teams in the world at that time.

Virtus.pro - Team Secret

Virtus.pro and Team Secret - this is the perfect example for a modern Classico. Both teams are aiming for the top of the Dota 2 world right now. They're the first two teams that are already qualified for the next The International. They also share the first rank in the DPC with 7.950 points each.

They reached both Major Grand Finals in this season, each team won one series - this is the biggest rivalry in 2018 and 2019. We checked all the matchups and can confirm: even before that, both teams already had an interesting head-to-head. Overall, they played 93 times against each other and Team Secret is leading this matchup with a 54,8% winrate.

We'll see if Virtus.pro can close the gap in the following months heading to The International 2019. Both teams are still waiting for their first TI win - maybe it's time for it in 2019.

Which is the real "El Classico of Dota 2"?
