We're starting a new series in which we focus on players and their iconic heroes. Let's start with two TI winners and an unlucky finalist of two different The International events.

Dendi & Pudge

The Danil 'Dendi' Ishutin-Pudge duo is most likely the most known in Dota 2 - next to Henrik 'AdmiralBulldog' Ahnberg and Nature's Prophet. However, if you check Dendi's most played Dota 2 heroes of all time, Pudge is not even in his top 5. In fact, he's barely in his top 10 since he's ranked in 10-12th place with Lina and Batrider.

Dendi played Pudge 44 times in professional and premium games according to datdota.com where we got our statistics from. His most played hero is actually Puck with 135 games. Puck could have been another option for a Dendi combo, but we decided to write about Pudge for a reason. I mean, Dendi even cosplayed his favourite hero at the All-Star match at The International 2015.

His most iconic games on Pudge were at TI3. Dendi and Clement 'Puppey' Ivanov abused the Fountain Hook against TongFu*. Natus Vincere had their back against the wall and were close to being sent to the Lower Bracket, but the Fountain Hook which only worked with Chen and Pudge helped Puppey and Dendi to turn the game around.

At this day, Na'Vi wrote history. It was a game nobody would ever forget and a hero-player duo nobody could ever forget either.

Miracle- & Invoker

Amer 'Miracle-' Al-Barkawi's most played hero in professional games is Invoker - which is not a surprise for anybody that has been following his career. He played 81 games on his iconic hero, but has a winrate of 67,90% which is actually not even in his top three. His best winrates are actually with Terrorblade (80% in 35 games) and Juggernaut (76,67% in 30 games).

Also, he is barely part of the top 10 of the all-time Invoker players: Miracle- is ranked in 9-10th place with 81 games. In first place is Xie 'Super!' Junhao with 107 games. So why should Invoker be Miracle-'s iconic hero if you just look at these stats?

The answer: he has some stats in which he leads the top-level Invoker players. Miracle- has the best average kill ratio per game with 10,19 and he has the highest XPM. On top of that, he's second in GPM and winrate. However, it's more his playstyle that makes him and Invoker the perfect duo.

Miracle- is considered to be one of the most skilled players in the scene. Which hero would be more fitting than the one that needs the most skill? He achieved legendary status on the hero during his third Major, The Manila Major. There, OG won their second Major trophy, but the most breathtaking performance at this event was Miracle's 43 kill streak while not dying a single time.

He truly deserves to be called the best Invoker player in the world.

Fy & Tusk

He said it himself at The International 2018: "They dare to pick Axe in front of the Tusk king?" We all know how this ended for Xu 'Fy' Linsen and his teammates, but nobody doubted that Fy is actually the Tusk king.

Checking his all-time stats on the famous walrus, Fy doesn't look like a king: 51 games played, a 58,82% winrate. Both are in the top 10 of the best Tusk players, but they're not even close to the first place. He's only leading in terms of assists with 16,63 assists per game.

However, it's different if we just check the stats from patch 7.00 where the game changed significantly. Fy's only one of five players who played Tusk more 30 times since December 2016. The Chinese has the most assists, a top 3 winrate, the second most kills. He also finished second in terms of GPM and XPM.

Fy isn't the Tusk king for all of Dota 2, but he definitely conquered the throne in the last two years. This scene from TI8 sums up perfectly why he is the king:

Which hero-player duo would you like to see in the next edition?
