That’s a wrap on King’s Cup 2 NA Group Stage! Playoffs begin tomorrow at 11AM PDT so we’ll see you then! Thanks for watching! pic.twitter.com/d2G5WQyDIK
Two emerge from Group Stage ‘undefeated’
The Group Stage was played as a best-of-two round-robin format. With paiN Gaming* withdrawing from the event and therefore giving up their semi-final invite, that left eight teams fighting for just three spots.
Top of the pile were the reborn J.Storm, led by Tae Won 'March' Park. They ended unbeated with a 5-2-0 record, tying with Rooons and test 123 and picking up series sweeps against compLexity Gaming, Demolition Boys, Vendetta, Infamous and Wheel Whreck While Whistling.
New coach Jimmy 'DeMoN' Ho stood in for Milan 'MiLAN' Kozomara for all series but their first, likely due to the Bosnian travelling to Vegas for the World Showdown of Esports — taking place the day after J.Storm’s Group Stage games here ended.
test 123, the new USA-Brazil mix team featuring Quinn 'CCnC' Callahan, booked their spot in the semi-finals as the second-best team, finishing with a 4-3-0 record. They picked up series wins against Rooons, Vendetta, Infamous and the above stomp versus Wheel Whreck, while they tied their series against compLexity, J.Storm and Braxstone to remain 'undefeated'.
Finally, Jacky 'EternaLEnVy' Mao and his compLexity Gaming side made it through a single-game tiebreaker with Braxstone to claim the final spot, ending up with a 3-2-2 record against the latter's 2-4-1 showing. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Canadian — he may want to watch out for the jungle next time!
And so, on to the semi-finals. compLexity will take on Roman 'Resolut1on' Fominok and his Forward Gaming side in the first match, while J.Storm and pain X meet again in the other. Both matches will be best-of-three, and take place later this evening (from 20:00 CEST), with the Grand Final being played tomorrow as a best-of-five.
With a spot at Dota Summit 10 the ultimate reward, who will be crowned champions?
