The insane comeback of OG against EG is the highlight of TI8!

posted by Smyke,
Fly vs. BigDaddyN0tail, SumaiL with a TI kill record and three incredible games - this clash was really the highlight of TI so far. However, this was not the only top match of the day.

Betrayed, dumped, becoming the underdog - and at the end top three at TI

This was the series we've all been hoping for, but didn't expect it would happen. OG wasn't just the underdog in this specific series, but in the whole Upper Bracket. We already realized in game one pretty early that OG had a plan - a plan to destroy Evil Geniuses and reach the top three.

Andreas 'Cr1t-' Nielsen explained in the interview after the game that OG caught them off-guard in game one. The cheesy strategy n0tail and his teammates were aiming for worked perfectly. The biggest mistake EG made happened already in the draft: they allowed Finnish youngster Topias 'Topson' Taavitsainen to pick Invoker - his favourite hero.

After 32 minutes and 36 seconds EG had to call 'GG'. OG was only one game away from entering the Upper Bracket Final. Game two was even more in their favour, at least in the beginning. After 20 minutes OG had a solid gold advantage, but EG didn't give up and one team fight changed everything. A full five-man team wipe and three diebacks caused OG to lose every advantage they had built up. EG turned the game on its head and won it in the end. It was the second series that went into game three at The International 2018 Main Stage.

However, the real rollercoaster only started in game three. This time, EG had the better draft and got the early lead. 40 minutes into the game, EG had a 20k gold lead. It should have just been a matter of time until the North American squad won the match, but one team fight started an epic comeback.

Anathan 'ana' Pham overextended on Spectre and was hunted and killed by the enemy squad. The game seemed to be over. Sebastien 'Ceb' Debs was on his own against five enemy heroes. The buybacks came in and OG was somehow able to turn the fight with a full five-man wipe. Left with one set of Barracks, OG still saw their chance and played a flawless game from that point on.

They snowballed their enemies and won the series. With that exciting win against EG, they're in the top three at TI. Especially N0tail really wanted to win this match. The handshake between him and Fly will be one of the most memorable moments of this tournament.

Liquid's streak is broken! Can they fight back from the Lower Bracket?

It looked so good for the reigning champion. It almost seemed like they could easily walk to their second Aegis in a row. However, PSG.LGD had the perfect idea to stop the European squad around German legend Kuro S. 'KuroKy' Takhasomi in the Upper Bracket.

In fact, after roughly one hour of playtime, Liquid had already lost twice against the Chinese top favourite with almost no possibilities to turn the games. LGD played flawless Dota 2 from the start to the end. After sweeping Liquid in such a convincing fashion, it's certain that the Chinese squad is looking straight for the throne of Dota 2 in Vancouver.

Fans from China will be very happy about their 2-0 against Liquid since Team Secret eliminated Vici Gaming, the last Chinese team that isn't called PSG.LGD, with a 2-1 from the tournament. Wang Chun 'Ame' Yu and co. are the only ones left to prevent a total disappointment for their country's Dota fans.
