Supermajor playoffs set! OpTic and Mineski are upper bracket bound

posted by Abelle,
The China Dota 2 Supermajor group stage has completed. OpTic Gaming and Mineski have joined the other six teams bound for the playoff upper bracket, while eight others will be faced with elimination at every step in the lower bracket.

OpTic were the first team to secure their spot today. They were destroyed by Liu 'Freeze' Chang's Slark in their first game of the day but they didn't let that ruffle their feathers. They fought back with everything they had to win the next two games in the series. Even in Game 3, faced with a 12k net worth deficit, they managed to turn things around with a jaw-droppingly well executed team fight.

When faced with LGD in the winner's decider match, OpTic hit a second stumbling block. The Chinese team pushed them aside in a 2-0 sweep, sending OpTic down to the second decider match. There, VGJ.Thunder had fought their way back through Infamous for a rematch against the NA squad.

The second series between these two teams did not disappoint. The first game was a 50+ minute epic during which OpTic pulled off a comeback against a 15k net worth lead from VGJ.T and Liu 'Sylar' Jiajun's 16/5/16 Medusa. The second game was all the OpTic show. Quinn 'CCnC' Callahan's Bloodseeker and Per Anders 'Pajkatt' Olsson L.'s Venomancer wreaked havoc on VGJ.T, forcing the GG call in just under 22 minutes.

Mineski's revenge

Mineski's road to the upper bracket got off to a rocky start with a 2-1 loss to Forward Gaming in their opening match. All three games in the series went beyond the 40-minute mark. VGJ took the Game 3 win with a very farmed and nigh-unkillable Phantom Lancer from Roman 'Resolut1on' Fominok.

The loss sent Mineski to the loser's match to face The Final Tribe. The SEA squad had no problem taking down the Europeans in a pair of increasingly one-sided games.

To end the day, Mineski needed to take revenge on the team that had beat them at the start. The rematch against VGJ.Storm would decide who would start their playoff road in the upper and lower brackets. In the first game, Chai 'Mushi' Yee Fung showcased a classic ideal last-pick Anti-Mage performance. VGJ.S took OD as their attempted counter, but they struggled from early on.

VGJ.S struck back in a tight Game 2 that saw Anucha 'Jabz' Jirawong's Rubick and Arif 'MSS' Anwar's Disruptor hold the highest kill participation and tie with their carries for most kills on their respective teams. MSS was 11/7/18 (Reso had 11 kills) and Jabz was 9/8/20 (Mushi had 9 kills).

Mineski steamrolled Game 3 with Kam 'Moon' Boon Seng early Eul's/Shadow Blade on Lina helping him to set up kills all around the map. In the 34 minute game, he had 22 of his team's 38 kills, 7 assists and just one death. Devastating.
