Team Secret continued the tradition of opening matches going to all three games. They faced The Final Tribe as their first test of the day and traded stomps all throughout the series. Secret took Games 1 handily, but were overrun by Tribe's extraordinarly storng pushing lineup featuring Luna, Ogre Magi to Bloodlust her, Dragon Knight, Leshrac and Chen. Towers have never looked so squishy. Then, it time for Secret to strike back and take another quick and one-sided win in Game 3.
They advanced to face Forward Gaming. It was a very different series because neither game was one-sided, but Team Secret came out on top after taking two straight wins. In the first game, Secret busted out their rarely-seen Arc Warden - which they had previous picked only five times in the last year. Yeik Nai 'MidOne' Zheng played it four of those times and Marcus 'Ace' Hoelgaard just once. Ace's last Arc Warden game was a loss to Immortals in the PGL Open: Bucharest, shortly after Ace joined the team.
Ace's performance this time was much better. Along with MidOne's Monkey King and YapzOr's roaming SkyWrath Mage, VGJ had to play incredibly carefully across the map to avoid being picked off in an instant. VGJ took a few good fights in the mid-game but were eventually shut down.
PSG.LGD undefeated in Group D
LGD's first match of the day was against probably the weakest team at this event - Infamous. Both games of the series saw LGD take and hold early leads, slowly but steadily working towards a win. Infamous managed to trade kills in most fights, but rarely broke even or came out ahead. After two such games that lasted around 35 minutes, LGD were through to the winner's decider.
There, they faced OpTic Gaming. The first game of their series was one of the most even games yet this morning. The two teams went blow for blow in the first 30 minutes with OpTic holding only minor Net Worth and Experience leads. However, a series of team fights past the 30 minute mark eroded that lead and pushed LGD into a position to take the first win.
In Game 2, Yao 'Somnus' Lu decided to show Quinn 'CCnC' Callahan how to play Storm Spirit, going 13/4/15 thanks, in part, to Drow Ranger's Precision Aura provided by Wang Chun 'Ame' Yu. This game wasn't as close as the first and ended with LGD taking the series 2-0.
Now, the remainder of the group stage matches will play out to determine which two other teams will join PSG.LGD and Team Secret in the upper bracket and which two will be sent to the lower.
