In the 23rd episode of the HotCox podcast, MISERY, Ken "Hot_Bid" Chen and David 'Godz' Parker spoke about ESL One Birmingham 2018 and the following China Dota 2 Supermajor shuffle.
"We bootcamped in London for Birmingham, we won pretty much every scrim." - MISERY
Although MISERY and his teammates had good preparation but the event itself didn't end with a good result for the North American squad. After a loss against Fnatic and later Team Spirit, EG's run had already ended on day one of the tournament.
"I kind of had a feeling that something is going to happen now because the atmosphere was really shit." - MISERY
In the whole time since MISERY joined in January, EG took one tournament win: GESC E-Series: Jakarta. Apart from that, most results were less than satisfactory for the team and its fans.
After the last match in Birmingham, MISERY said that everybody went silent in the room - at that point, he anticipated that he would be kicked.
The Danish captain was asked if there is more pressure being the new guy on EG, since Sumail 'SumaiL' Syed Hassan and the others have a rather safe status in that team for some time.
"I'm like an easy target. It wasn't that big of a surprise to me." - MISERY
He clarified that he knew from the beginning that he could be that easy target of flame or even a kick if EG didn't do well. After EG lost their games at Birmingham, he even texted Sam 'Bulba' Sosale and their manager Phil to ask him if he would get kicked.
"I didn't feel like the team was in a very good state" - MISERY
"I don't think it was a bad decision by them" - MISERY
In the end he was not surprised by the decision and even understands it somewhat. When asked about the state of the team and whether he thinks they could have done well at TI if they stayed together, he explained that the state was not very good.
Only one more question was in the room: Were Fly and s4 already signed by then? MISERY has his own opinion:
"At that point in time, they didn’t already have s4 and Fly" - MISERY
