In this China versus China semifinal showdown, underdogs cn VGJ.Thunder took the upper hand against their own region's dominant force, cn Newbee. This impressive 2-0 victory makes VGJ.T the first team to reach The Bucharest Major 2018 Grand Final.

Game 1

Newbee took a solid early lead in this game and, with the help of Zeng 'Faith' Hongda's Chen, pushed the bottom Tier 3 at just the 14-minute mark. It was looking great for Newbee but when they dove into VGJ.Thunder's base they found themselves in too deep and without an escape. VGJ wiped them out and the game very quickly turned their way. Xu 'Moogy' Han's Razor was struggling, unable to have much of an impact in fights before he was chunked down by VGJ's heavy physical damage output. VGJ used that physical damage (partly from yet another Liu 'Sylar' Jiajun Luna) to take highground and the win in just over 33 minutes.

Game 2

The second game followed a somewhat similar pattern to the first, though Newbee held on a bit longer this time. There were also a few missteps from VGJ.T that drew out the game, such as this misclicked Black King Bar from Liu 'Sylar' Jiajun as his team were smoking up to flank Newbee.

(For those unfamiliar with the meme, Yang 'NeverEnd' Pu joked about his "Made in China" BKB in a Manila Major post-match interview)

After a short period of quiet in the mid-game, it seemed like Newbee were hungry to make something happen. A ward gave Hu 'Kaka' Liangzhi the confidence to initiate on VGJ in their jungle but the fight turned horribly wrong once Zhou 'Yang' Haiyang got off his Guardian Angel and Newbee were wiped off the map.

From that point, Newbee were too far on the back foot to recover and VGJ.T quickly finished them off. The win gives VGJ.Thunder a well-deserved spot in The Bucharest Major Grand Final.
