The curse is broken, Virtus.pro beat Evil Geniuses

posted by Abelle,
ru Virtus.pro have finally overcome their two-year losing streak against us Evil Geniuses with a beautifully executed 2-1 victory in the second ESL One Katowice 2018 quarterfinal.

Things looked good from the start for Virtus.pro in this quarterfinal. They kicked the series off with a dominant Game 1 victory carried by Roman 'RAMZEs' Kushnarev's Terrorblade and Vladimir 'No[o]ne' Minenko's Gyrocopter. Over the course of the 33-minute game, EG took just 8 kills to Virtus.pro's 30.

Evil Geniuses managed to rebound from that quick loss and drafted a lineup featuring powerful pushing cores for the second game. With Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev on Luna, Sumail 'SumaiL' Syed Hassan on Beastmaster and Clinton 'Fear' Loomis on Death Prophet, EG were able to take two sets of barracks after VP fumbled an attempted contest at the Roshan pit.

WHAT A SUDDEN SWING!@EvilGeniuses wipe @virtuspro off the map and grab double rax off the back of it! #ESLOne https://t.co/07tp2cjzXF pic.twitter.com/9TJRJtIZtu— ESL Dota2 (@ESLDota2) February 24, 2018

The final game of the series was the VP show. They played confidently, pulling off plays that looked borderline suicidal at the time but somehow worked out. No[o]ne's Tinker was especially impressive, diving into fights to finish off fleeing targets and stopping Arteezy's Terrorblade from being able to keep the lanes pushed out. VP held a strong lead in the late game but a full five-man wipe at the 43-minute mark spelled the end of EG's run in Katowice and broke VP's curse.
