A shaky Newbee top StarLadder Group B

posted by Abelle,
The possibility of another cn Newbee versus eu Team Liquid best-of-five is still alive with Newbee having managing to take the top spot in their group at Starladder | i-League Invitational #4 and secure a spot in the semifinal round.

Newbee's road to the playoffs today featured matches against ru Team Empire and my Mineski. Both teams gave them a bit of trouble but neither one could stop the Chinese squad from coming out on top of the group.

In their first match against Team Empire, Newbee were plagued by Maxim 'yoky' Kim's Bounty Hunter, who was able to keep tabs on them all game long. Newbee picked Zeus for Song 'Sccc' Chun, likely in an attempt to counter BH, Andrey 'Ghostik' Kadyk's Enchantress and Aleksandr 'Nix' Levin's Tinker, but Empire's last-pick Sven made Newbee look like paper.

Newbee rallied in Games 2 and 3, taking back the series with some classic picks like Sccc's Outworld Devourer and Damien 'kpii' Chok's Tidehunter. At least Empire can take heart in the fact that they played very well against such a high level team and they've still got a chance at the playoffs in tomorrow's final group stage matches.

The opening game against Mineski was a bit embarassing for Newbee. Both teams played solidly for the first 30 minutes but then a disastrous few fights sent Mineski skyrocketing into a 14k net worth lead. With Chai 'Mushi' Yee Fung's Troll Warlord on the front lines, Mineski took the first game of the series.

Somehow, Newbee gathered themselves for a second time today and came back to take the series 2-1. The second game was quite one-sided thanks to Xu 'Moogy' Han's 17/1/12 Leshrac but Game 3 was the true test with another even early game leading to big game-deciding late game fights.

Newbee will advance to the semifinal to face either pe Infamous, cn PSG.LGD or us compLexity Gaming. Those three teams will play for that final playoff spot tomorrow.
