OG, VP and more to play in PGL Open: Bucharest regional qualifiers

Some very big names will be duking it out in the upcoming regional qualifiers for the PGL Open: Bucharest, which is one of the first Valve Minors.

PGL announced dates for the qualifiers as well as the two directly invited teams (

PSG.LGD and

Evil Geniuses) last week, but now their site has been updated with teams directly invited to the six qualifier regions. Only three regions have complete lists of invited teams so far, however. They are Europe, CIS and Southeast Asia.

It feels surprising to see teams like OG and Virtus.pro fighting it out in qualifiers, but with just two direct invite slots to many of these smaller events, not every great team will get a free pass. This also means that we'll get more chances to see these teams play with their new roster in officials - something that fans of top teams were sorely missing last season.

Southeast Asia will be one of the first regions to kick off, with matches starting on Sept 11. Europe and CIS will follow one week later, with the first matches in those regions scheduled for Sept 18. The main event will take place October 19-22 in Bucharest, Romania and features a $300,000 prize pool.
