Nothing too surprising was in store in the first couple of elimination matches in the MarsMedia Dota 2 League 2017 - Summer Season playoff lower bracket, but the biggest result of today's games is the epic matchup now in store for next round.

The first elimination match of the day was between us Evil Geniuses and world Clutch Gamers and things went just about as well as you might expect. EG put ca Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev on Venomancer in both games. In the first game, EG put constant pressure on Clutch with se Ludwig 'zai' Wåhlberg roaming on Spirit Breaker and dk Andreas 'Cr1t-' Nielsen able to help any lane with Io.

After losing in under 30 minutes, Clutch adjusted by putting serious pressure on Artour in the early game, but that just gave pk Sumail 'SumaiL' Syed Hassan's Alchemist all the space in the world to farm. The second game lasted just a few minutes longer than the first, and just like that EG had eliminated Clutch Gamers from MDL.

The final match of the day was between cn Vici Gaming and cn Invictus Gaming. The first game was a lengthy slugfest, ending in a series of back and forth base pushes. Vici Gaming held on to their base against the odds for several fights, but were eventually overcome by Mega Creeps after 68 minutes.

iG had lost to VG in the round robin, but when VG drafted very similar heroes to that match in Game 2, iG seemed more comfortable in executing their gameplan against it. In fact, in all three games that these two teams faced each other, iG picked Troll Warlord. cn Xu 'BurNIng' Zhilei played it the first two times, but handled the Weaver instead in their final game.

iG's solution for Game 2 was relentless pressure with the help of Shadow Shaman wards, and VG found themselves losing ther base in just over 30 minutes.

Today's matches mean that we have a seriously exciting elimination match to look forward to tomorrow - eu OG vs EG. While it means that just one Western team will be left in the tournament, we can be glad the two teams are meeting at all, as the clash is sure to be an epic one. If you live in Europe, you'll have to get up pretty early for this one, as it's the first match of the day.
