Team VGJ was a bit of an unexpected inclusion in the direct invite list since they haven’t been nearly as dominant as their fellow invitees, so how will they fare in Kiev? They might not have a long list of achievements to boast about, but what this team does have going for them are a few very strong results.

The team formed in the post TI6 roster shuffle, and didn’t even qualify for The Boston Major but since then they’ve been improving. They came out on top of The Dota 2 Professional League Season 2’s secondary league, then qualified for Starladder | i-League StarSeries Season 3.

At the StarSeries LAN, cn VGJ.Thunder exceeded expectations with wins over world Planet Odd* and cn Team Random* in the group stage, then went on to defeat eu OG in the semifinals before losing to eu Team Liquid. Not a championship, but a win over OG and a Grand Final appearance was obviously enough to warrant an invite from Valve.

Since they’ve already shown themselves to be capable to winning against top teams, the single elimination format of The Kiev Major may be all VGJ needs to thrill us once again.
