Fall Battle Pass: *NEW* Battle Cup winners could qualify for Major Regionals!

posted by Malystryx.GDS,
News of the Fall Battle Pass comes just 2 days after the announcement of the Boston Major, and it includes some big improvements to the Weekend Battle Cups.

The Battle Pass which will cost $7.99 includes the regulars; Quests, Battle Points, Battle Levels, Cosmetics Achievements and the ability to place and win Wagers. However, the big talking point of the new Battle Pass is the improvements made to the Battle Cup system, the eight-team single elimination competitions held every Saturday.

Battle Cup success can mean a spot in the Spring Major Regionals!
Weekend Battle Cups will return for the Fall 2016 Battle Pass, and this time Valve have tied in the Battle Cups to the qualifiers for the Spring Major.

Strong performers in the Battle Cup tournaments can earn a spot in an exclusive "Champions Cup" at the end of the season and that's not all.

"Tier-8 Champions Cup winners will even be eligible to form a team with other tier-8 winners to compete in one of four Spring Major Battle Cup Qualifiers, with the winners receiving invites to play in the Spring Major Regional Qualifiers," said Valve in their official announcement.

A potential replacement for Open Qualifiers?
The addition of a Champions Cup essentially means that a team from the Battle Cups can actually earn a spot in the Spring Major Regional Qualifiers without having to go through the traditional Open Qualifiers. This is a major change and also a way to engage the community directly through the client.

With the addition of Champions Cups and also the feature that allows solo players to be matched with parties (explained below), Valve has essentially reproduced what they could do via FACEIT, while still keeping the ticket fees for players to join the various Battle Cups.

Whether these changes means Valve will no longer hold Open Qualifiers for the second Major we do not know yet. The Weekend Battle Cups were a huge success, and this upgrade will make them not only entertaining but also potentially a great way for a new team to break into the scene.

Party Builder Tool will help finish your stack by finding solo player(s)
As a way to address teams being short of a player or two for a Battle Cup, Valve has incorporated a Party Builder Tool, "which matches parties with solo players looking for a team to join". Potential team-mates are chosen based on language, tier and server ping.

Do remember that to compete in a Battle Cup it costs $0.99 per player and the profile level of each player needs to be above level 25. A total of ten Battle Cups will take place between now and the Champions Cup post-Boston Major.

Battle Cup schedule: There will be 10 Battle Cups between now and Christmas
