Alliance robbed both Limmp and Handsken of a chance to attend the Frankfurt Major after an incredible comeback in the Regional Qualifiers. Their team folded as a result but now both players have a shot at redemption.

CoL's Handsken, Limmp and Chessie all have history with Alliance
All three of Complexity's new additions have a connection with their upcoming opponents se Alliance. se Linus 'Limmp' Blomdin and se Simon 'Handsken' Haag did not attend the Frankfurt Major last year because of a shock defeat to Alliance in the last stage of the Regional Qualifiers last year. Alliance came back from megacreeps to defeat Limmp and Handsken's former team NiP and take the second slot to the Frankfurt Major. The defeat as Handsken told joinDOTA, was a big part of NiP folding, and the duo now have a chance to send Alliance home.

se Rasmus 'Chessie' Blomdin on the other hand, used to play for Alliance back when he was starting out as a professional Dota 2 player after transitioning from HoN. His time in Alliance was cut short after a series of back injuries plagued him, which first started at WCA 2014. After being forced to find stand-ins for two seperate events, Alliance and Chessie finally parted ways and Chessie retired from competing while he recovered from the injury. He now finds himself in the final 8 of the Shanghai Major, and up against his former team-mates.

They took out LGD Gaming but can Complexity do the business in a bo3?
As the Shanghai Major trudges on all eyes will be upon Alliance and Complexity Gaming as they face off in the first Lower Bracket Best of 3 round. Alliance finds themselves here after one of the most explosive upsets of the tournament so far, Losing to team Liquid in the first match of the Upper Bracket Finals. Complexity on the other hand seems to feel rather comfortable in the Lower Bracket, advancing at a steady rate knocking Team Spirit and LGD Gaming in the initial Best of One’s.

Complexity Gaming did not perform so well in the Group stages and summarily were placed in the lower bracket, but it seems that living on the edge has reinvigorated the North American team. Their performance in the preliminary stage could have also been due in part to the strength of their opponents, their opponents being EG, Virtus Pro, and Team Liquid.

Alliance on the other hand did extremely well in their group stage but in their Upper Bracket debut against Team Liquid a few missteps cost them that safety. Loda and crew have had enough time to heal and reassess their situation but Complexity won’t go down without a fight.

Complexity has played almost twice as many 6.86 matches as Alliance
On 6.86 Complexity has played 70 matches and has accrued an impressive 45 Wins and 25 Losses, this gives them a 64.3% Win Rate. At the other end of the spectrum, Alliance hasn’t played quite as many, with only 36 games, 25 Wins and 11 Losses, which gives them a 69.4% Win rate. The difference in games played won’t be much of a factor here as Alliance has performed rather well thus far and Complexity has learned the meta substantially better than many of the Chinese teams we’ve seen in this tournament.

The two teams haven’t faced one another since 2014 in a Bo2 that ended in a tie, but this was in a very different patch with most of the current rosters for both teams absent. (MoonMeander was on CoL in that match.)

Although they haven’t faced one another in matches in quite some time, in an Interview with a prominent Swedish Youtuber, Admiral Bulldog was quoted to have said they have been known to scrim against Complexity from time to time. So in this match it will be interesting to see how the two teams, who haven’t met on the battlefield when it matters in such a long time, work around the knowledge gained during practice.

If Complexity can upset Alliance, which would also end Alliance’s story at the Shanghai Major, then this match will be a major milestone for the up and coming team. If CoL wins this match they will be placed at the highest position they have ever finished in a major tournament, and victory over Alliance would be a substantial result as they are definitely one of the top teams on 6.86.

A win for Complexity will only further their dreams of being one of the best in the world, but a win for Alliance gives them a chance to fight their way back to the top and prove why Alliance never left in the first place. Even at this point in the Major there is a lot at stake, Tune in at 10:00 AM CET to watch it all unfold.

Do Complexity stand a chance?
