Should Valve introduce Divisions for MMR like other titles? MVP's QO thinks so

posted by Malystryx.GDS,
Dota 2 is one of the only top flight eSports titles to not have a division system in ranked matchmaking. MVP.Phoenix's kr Seon-Yeob 'QO' Kim thinks that should change. Do you agree?
8K MMR and MVP Phoenix player Qo believes divisions would be a good addition to Dota 2

Dota 2 is the odd one out - Context for QO's comments
Dota 2 is the odd one out when it comes to the match-making system. Blizzard's Hearthstone and Starcraft 2, Riot Games' League of Legends and Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive all have a division system to group players together of a similar skill. WHat is more some titles such as Hearthstone reset the divisions every so often, and players will once again climb up the divisions and reap rewards for where they place each "season".

"I think Valve needs to kind of develop a system, for example making some tier," said QO. "Every other game has a tier, like divisions. I think that way it would be more fun and then I hope it would sometimes get reset and give rewards. I don't really get the point of getting MMR except for practising or for giving yourself self-confidence."

The Matchmaking Rating or MMR as it is commonly referred to was made visible for players in Dota 2 back in December 2013, and recently we have seen players reach MMR as high as 8,000. Qo himself just surpassed 8,000 MMR, making him the 3rd highest active player on the China MMR Leaderboards at time of writing.

Examples of how Divisions work in other eSports titles
Divisions in League of LegendsIn League of Legends your MMR is hidden but your number of League Points is visible. The system will give you a MMR based on your initial placement matches and then determine which division you fall into. There are seven official divisions; Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platium, Diamond, Master and Challenger plus "unranked". In the top 4 divisions a LP decay is in place, meaning you will lose MMR if you do not play for 28 days in Platinum and Diamond, or 10 days in Master and Challenger.

In LoL your MMR is not visible, but once you acquire the required MMR to be promoted you will enter your "promotion series", and you are required to win 2 out of your next 3 games to go up. Divisions Bronze to Diamond have five tiers, so for example you could be Silver II or Diamond IV. The ladders are reset once a year.

Divisions in HearthstoneIn Hearthstone there are 25 ranks above which is Legend. Players starting out begin at rank 25 and once they put together a string of wins they can reduce their rank by 1. The number of victories required in a row to progress increases gradually as you climb the ranks, and each win earns you a star.

From rank 25 to 21 you can not lose stars only gain them, but after rank 20 each defeat will cost you one star. Winning three games in a row earns you a bonus star. The ladders are reset at the end of every month. Based on player's rank at the end of each month or "season", they receive in-game items which can be a new card, a deck of cards, dust to build cards or gold to buy them. A good result at the end of one season will allow you to leapfrog up the rankings at the start of the next.

Counter-Strike Global Offensive also has a division system

What do you think? Should Valve implement a division system?
