$250,000 event in Philippine capital next year, introducing ESL One Manila « News

ESL has announced that it will host the first ever Southeast Asian ESL One tournament in Manila, Philippines on April 23rd to 24th 2016 in the Mall of Asia Arena. ESL One Manila 2016 will be the first premium Dota 2 tournament in the region, and will see local Filipino Dota 2 teams invited to help further establish its thriving esports scene. ESL One's arrival on the Asian continent also marks the prize money milestone of $750,000, with regards to ESL's promise of pledging one million dollars in Dota 2 prize money over a twelve-month period.

According to Ulrich Schulze, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL, determining the location of the tournament was achieved with few difficulties.

"ESL has been eager to bring ESL One to Southeast Asia, and with the Philippines’ rich Dota 2 history, we couldn’t think of a better place. ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr and Smart GameX will make history as the region’s largest esports competition to date, and we’re confident we can deliver a world-class experience to local and international fans both at the venue and online."

The ESL One tournament will feature eight teams from different regions, competing in a single elimination format. Two teams will be directly invited based on their previous performance, while the other participants will be chosen through an online qualifier. The event will feature one team from Europe, United States, Philippines, and China, and two Southeast Asian teams.
