"Wow we won" - Resolut1on's reponse to Empire's incredible 2-0 over Vega

posted by Malystryx.GDS,
In an unpredictable turn of events the winners of ESL One New York ru Vega Squadron * are out of the DreamLeague Season 4 LAN Finals, having racked up their second defeat at Dreamhack Winter 2015. This means that Team Empire, a team in poor form in the recent months but recently boosted by the addition of former-Navi player ua Gleb 'Funn1k' Lipatnikov will now face the Frankfurt Major winner eu OG.

The result means Vega exit the competition along with Monkey Freedom Fighters, while 4C&L and Empire progress to join Alliance and OG in the final stage of the competition which starts tomorrow. Empire's victory over Vega is a peculiar one, especially as Team Empire do not have a good record versus fellow CIS teams.

Vega easily disposed off eu Monkey Freedom Fighters* in the first round, but ran into trouble in the form of 4C&L in the second. nl Alaan 'Bamboe' Faraj played a mean Earthshaker in the opening game, but it was Pajkatt's Shadow Fiend and especially his Tiny in games 1 and 3 that sealed the deal.

When Vega Squadron met Team Empire the game dragged on well past midnight European time, which could be a factor in Vega calling gg in game 1 at 27 minutes before Empire had even taken any tier 3 buildings or towers. Stand-in ua Gleb 'Funn1k' Lipatnikov played Nightstalker in both games to great effect, in particular the second game where he managed to complete Aghanim's Sceptre and get five kills to his name.

Game 1 was a very swift aggressive game by Empire, with ru Airat 'Silent' Gaziev's Luna extremely well farmed by 30 minutes, owning an Eye of Skadi, Manta Style and a Talisman of Evasion. The second game was all about the Dragon Knight and Dazzle combo. The DK is a hero ua Roman 'Resolut1on' Fominok is well-known for, and ua Ilya 'AlohaDance' Korobkin backed him up beautifully. The second game was a far more patient one from both sides, with some cold calculated decision making going on and only 25 deaths by the 30 minute mark.

Pasha caught in no man's land, Mag forced to waste Guardian Greaves

However, Vega lost the plot at 32 minutes in a fight in their own jungle, after ua Andrey 'Mag' Chipenko was forced to waste his Guardian Greaves to keep ru Pavel '9pasha' Khvastunov's Luna alive very early on in the fight, and Empire quickly punished them for a poor battle by taking out two sets of rax and ending the game shortly after. Overall a great performance by Team Empire, who brought a bit of retro Dota back with their Dragon Knight and Gyro pick in the second game.

Four teams left to fight for their share of $150,000

Tomorrow the battle for the title continues at Dreamhack Winter in Jonkoping, Sweden. Alliance who finished fourth at least season's LAN finals have a chance to go one better if they can win tomorrow against 4C&L. Meanwhile, Empire head into the clash with OG not only on the back of two wins, but also having defeated OG the last time to two met in the D2CL Season 6 semi-finals earlier this month.
