What did OG say in the post-Grand Finals press conference? We'll tell you

posted by Malystryx.GDS,
As the Festhalle Messe was returned to normal and the spectators left to travel back home, the Fall Major winners OG took part in a press conference for the media. The press conference was not broadcast and no comprehensible footage has surfaced of what was spoken, until now. Jump to find out what the first-ever Dota 2 Major winners had to say and bask in the wisdom of Fly, Notail and Cr1t on their epic journey.

Fly on whether being the team with the most games before Majors helped them or hindered them...

Fly: "It definitely helped us a lot. I think going through the pressure and stress of playing a lot brought up a lot of the issues that every team goes through and gave us the learning experience we needed. I don’t think we could have done it as well as we did if we hadn’t had those experiences."

Cr1t: "The pressure on us was not that high"
Fly on official games vs scrims...

Fly: "I think it’s a little tricky, playing officials is good and it puts you in a more realistic situation, because when you scrim people don’t take it 100% serious. Even though people say yea we’ll play 100% but it never happens, people play 75%, 50%. So playing officials definitely helps put you in the mindset for the Majors, so we were kind of used to this whole mindset of playing officials and being tired all the time."

Notail on how he feels winning the Fall Majors after a "rocky time" with Secret and C9...

N0tail: "I’m not going to lie, it feels really good. I have the feeling of accomplishment and that I proved a lot. At the same time the truth is that I’m not the best player on this team, I haven’t unlocked my fullest potential. I still have a lot more to learn. I think why people looked down on my performances in C9 were some external issues and team issues that we had. Winning this tournament I feel like all these past experiences came to help."

Cr1t on why the Lower-Bracket gave them an advantage and OG's mindset to survive...

Cr1t: "I think that being in the Lower Bracket gave us an advantage in a way. We could really see what went wrong in the group stage and correct it for the main event. The more we kept on winning the more we got momentum and once we had it we have beaten everyone, all the good teams because we were really on the roll and we knew how to play the game the best way. It helped us being in Lower Bracket.

I think it was way easier for us to perform coming from the lower bracket since the pressure on us was not that high. Especially at the later stages of the lower bracket when we were one game away from elimination. Against EHOME I think they crumbled a lot in the last game and we stayed calm, and we’d dealt with the situation before, and I think that’s one of the reasons we could play at a higher level."

"We all had heroes we believe in."
Fly on S4's comment that OG seemed to get comfortable pick combinations in your draft, even in the Finals

Fly: "I feel like we had an upper hand in most of the drafts with Team Secret. I think we have higher hero pool, at least it felt like it. I was mostly surprised they did not include some of their niche picks like Bounty Hunter, the Chen, which we really expected. They went for more standard compositions.

Having N0tail, who is one of the most versatile players in the game, he can play pretty much every hero including Meepo, that always gives us advantage. They did not really see the Brewmaster coming although we have ran it before.

N0tail is pretty much the only one who could make this pick work. Moon was also super aggressive. W33haa still does not have enough heroes, that he plays comfortably that I know of, so when he took the Alchemist we thought that we won the game because he is not that comfortable on him and we all had heroes we believe in."

On OG's non-existent preparation versus Evil Geniuses...

Fly: “WE didn’t really prepare at all (team laughs) It’s not we didn’t want to, we just didn’t really have time. We played late yesterday and played at 11 today, so we didn’t have time.

NoTail: “But I think this matchup, especially versus EG is something we personally felt very good about it because we studied them a lot at MLG, and I didn’t feel much difference playing this EG than the MLG one so, you can’t always prepare for your opponent like it’s the first time you play them, sometimes you have to use past experience and feel good about it and think: ‘yea, we played them before, we studied them before, it’s not optimal but at least it’s something."

Notail drops some knowledge on how important personal relationships are in the team...

Notail: "For me, what is the most important in Dota are the things outside the game, because you are five individuals. For you to achieve something close to being a single unit, you have to be able to trust each other, and for you to trust each other you have to like each other. There’s plenty of factors outside the game, being good at the game is not enough to win a tournament, it’s not enough to get top 3.

This is what I really like about the game, so for example someone like Miracle, he is so talented at the game and he is so talented at playing alone, but if it wasn’t for his niceness, you know his general character, his talent would not be of use in a team and he wouldn’t be able to achieve what we did today. I value it more than anything."
