While many of you may be interested in what Source 2 will look like in game, Valve has made sure that Source 2 isn't just a pretty face
Once downloaded users will be prompted as to whether they want to load into the beta or the main client giving you freedom as to when you want to explore Source 2 more! However, there are a few restrictions and while your match history, items, rank and friends will remain the same between the two version Ranked Matchmaking is currently disabled in the beta client until further testing of the clients functionality has been done.
Enhanced Performance and Multithreading
Source 2 has been built to help support older, more performance restricted devices allowing more users to experience the game at a resonable FPS. Valve has also made sure that the super pc's will see a benefit too with the Source 2 having ability to harness the full power of multithreading as well as benefitting from 64-bit opertating systems and supports upcoming graphics standards like Direct3D 11 and Vulkan.
There is also a brand new renderer inside Source 2 containing a host of new features and improvements, giving creators more design freedom and removes many of the constraints that its predecessor had allowing map designers to create worlds that were not possible to build in the previous engine.
Improved Networking
While not necessarily a Source 2 feature this is something that a lot of players have been calling for, especially those in the SEA and Australian reigons and it looks like valve has been reading their fair share of reddit posts.
The plan is to implements a new network backbone over the next six months in order to double the number of links in the network allowing for more optimal routing for connections and the ability to adapt to changing network conditions. From their tests that have apparently been sneakily taking place in the USA, results show that 40% of all clients are reciving a better ping when connected to the new system of routing their game traffic.
Valve is also equally trying to tackle the persistent issue of Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS for short) with the client now being capable of quickly switching relays in the event of an attack with Valves long term goal of being able to remove their game servers from the public IP address space and thus making them far safer from these attacks.
Additionally, Valve is expanding their networks to be able to deal with three terabits per second (that's around 3,000,000 Mb/s if you were wondering) and they're planning to increase server capacity worldwide by over 50% in the next six months with Singapore already being doubled along with US East having a 40% increase.
Of course there is also Custom Games
A part of Dota history that has been missing since the last beta, Custom games will now add a new and fun way of playing with your friends and will give you the chance to experience the Dota world like never before and we can't wait to discover just what will be created in the months ahead.
Have you played the beta yet? What did you think?
