The two finalists of The Defense have just been decided with ua Natus Vincere coming in from the winner bracket with a one game advantage and dk Quantic Gaming coming from the loser bracket.

Before proceeding into the Grand Final, Quantic had to fend off rival team dk Evil Geniuses in the final of the loser bracket. Prior to the clash, EG beat Quantic convincingly two-to-nothing, banishing Quantic into the loser bracket. When EG was finally pushed into the loser bracket by Na'Vi, Quantic finally had their opportunity to avenge their earlier loss in the playoffs.

In the loser bracket final yesterday night, Quantic played flawlessly and managed to defeat Evil Geniuses two-to-nothing. Their revenge is complete and today, joinDOTA have for you, dk Martin 'AngeL' Olsen from Quantic Gaming.

In this interview, we asked AngeL about his feelings while playing and the strategy that they employed against EG. Besides that, AngeL also gave us some insight about their preparation against the Ukrainian giants and his overview on the whole of The Defense so far.
To start this interview off, congratulations on the win against EG. How do you feel now that you are finally in the Grand Final of The Defense?

Thank you. We are so happy about our games yesterday, we came for revenge and we got it! After losing 2-0 against EG in the upper bracket, we were very frustrated about our performance. Even though we have had some real-life complications which took some practise time away, we felt ready going up against them. Getting the revenge is the best feeling right now.

In game one, you guys tried to do a sneak attack on the Roshan with Furion teleporting into the Rosh pit. Who came up with the decision to perform such a risky move?

We realised that EG was dodging every single fight possible, by pushing the other lanes while we tried to take the battle to them. So there is no better place to force a fight than at Roshan at that time. We took a chance by doing so, and it paid off. I think it was miGGel who made the call.

You ultimately managed to get the last hit on Roshan despite the effort of Sand King and Queen of Pain trying to steal the kill and Aegis. How hard was your heart beating when performing such a dangerous play?

Very hard (smiles). It could have turned the tide of the game around if they would have gotten Aegis. Right before the Queen of Pain and the Sand King jumped in, Invoker stole all of my mana with EMP. I had saved mana boots for this to be able to cast off my Ravage. Without that, I don't think I would have survived long enough for Roshan to be dead.

During game two, there was an instance where Demon’s Beastmaster suddenly ran past you and the tower during the 3:17 mark to pull off some sort of mindgame. What was going through your head at that time?

At that moment, I thought he would get some backup from Vengeful Spirit, so I was scared at first. A few seconds later, I saw that he was backing off which indicated that he must have been all by himself and trying to lurk me out. I was really tempted to go on him, but I did not take that chance.

In both the games against EG, there were a lot of instances in which the reinforcement of EG did not arrive in time and most players do not help defend the tower during the early pushes. Do you think that was the biggest factor in their demise or if not, why?

As I mentioned earlier, they were dodging every possible teamfight. Therefore, it just made it a lot easier for us to just force the early pushess. It was probably the biggest factor to why they lost. There were several instances that we really wondered why they didn't even try to defend both towers and base.

After your game against EG, a lot of people complained about how EG did not even try hard to win the game and has given up. What do you think about this?

I'm sure they tried. We just had two almost flawless games and after the picking phase of both the games, we really felt like we outdrafted them.

So you have officially, two and a half days to practise for this Grand Final. Will there be any special preparations made just for Na’Vi?

We try to make special preparations for every match, so yes. We might practise a little bit more this time round as well (smiles).

What do you know about Na’Vi strategically?

They are dangerous right now, playing fast and aggressive games. The rest is a secret (tease).

In the game against EG, it seems that your team plays a mean pushing strat in which Na’Vi is also famous for. What do you think will happen then?

If both teams ended up going for some heavy push strategies, it's all boils down to timing - who will make the right move first.

Do you think Na’Vi will deviate from their comfort zone to create an element of surprise this time?

Na'Vi is a versatile team, they can do anything basically, so, we have to be prepared for surprises as well as we can.

What will be the counter if Dendi goes for his fearsome Pudge again?

Pudge is always annoying to play against and Dendi is one of the best at it. But you will see what happens if they pick Pudge!

Since Na’Vi will be having a one game advantage going into the Grand Final, do you think a best-of-five format will be good for your team or do you think fatigue will kick in?

I think we all be pretty pumped up for this match, so I doubt fatigue will affect us. It will be one of the hardest tests for us this far since we have to win three games, and only allowed to drop one.

As we near the end of The Defense, which do you think has been the most memorable game and your hardest opponent of The Defense?

That will have to be the games against EG in the upper bracket of the playoffs where we lost 2-0. Those were the hardest games of The Defense, and I think the most memorable games should be our victory against them yesterday .

Assuming that you win The Defense, what is the first thing you would do with the cash prize?

I actually think I would just save them for now, but I might change my mind later (smiles).

Have you watched “Life is like a box of Dota 2?” What do you think of it? Would you wish for more productions like this to be made?

YES, YES AND YES. It was absolutely amazing to watch, I enjoyed every second of it. Just brilliant.

How do you think The Defense has been organized up till now? Are there anything we can improve on?

Sometimes we have problems playing US servers, especially on the US-West, it feels like playing Russian Roulette. It's also really hard when there are two tournaments running at the same time, and have a tight schedule like this Sunday. We have both the Grand Final in The Defense and a Premier League match and now, one of them will have to change the time, I mean tournaments are made for the players right? In any case, The Defense have been really well organized.

We have reached the end of the interview. Thanks for your time Martin. Do you have any final words to the viewers or perhaps to start a little trash talk against your opponent?

I would like to thank Quantic-Gaming and Razer for picking us up. We really love you guys! Shoutout to my team, our fans, and haters. Without you guys, it wouldn't be the same.
