Huge blow to D2L as Alliance and C9 quit

posted by Malystryx.GDS,
The D2L has suffered a huge blow this evening as it was announced that both Alliance and Cloud9 have chosen to withdraw from the competition. Alliance true to their word have withdrawn from the competition to "rebuild" their team whilst Cloud9 place the blame on a packed schedule. This leaves the competition with only 6 teams just 10 days after starting.

In an apologetic and sorrowful Reddit post Commentator Ayesee broke the news of the loss of the two teams, as well as asking for patience on the release of Cosmic Reliquary, a beautifully crafted weapon for Faceless Void.

Ayesee the following to say about Alliance's withdrawal:

Shortly following their loss in the XMG Captain's Draft Invitational yesterday, Alliance reached out to us regarding the potential of them withdrawing from competition in order to address what they view to be critical internal roster concerns. During our conversations it had initially seemed that they might continue to participate with the help of some rescheduling. But, as of today, they believe it best that they withdraw entirely and focus on addressing what they perceive to be very serious internal issues before competing again this year.

While this situation is certainly heartbreaking, the last thing we would ever want is to have a team participating under duress and out of sheer obligation. We understand and support their desire to put their own professional development and well being ahead of potential immediate gain, and look forward to seeing them back in action in coming months.

Cloud9 Manager Janzen explained the decision:

"The Cloud 9 Dota 2 roster will not be participating in the remainder of the Dota 2 League Season Five after a long discussion with the team about the upcoming tournament schedule and specifically the conflict with the i-League LAN. The players understand that they must be selective with their tournament qualifier scheduling as well as not put anyone in a position where the team would qualify but decline the LAN event. Cloud 9 would like to thank D2L and our fans for being very accommodating and understanding of our situation."

Team Secret also withdrew from the D2L, but luckily before it started, allowing the organisers time to replace them with us Sneaky Nyx Assassins. The D2L is now left with only six teams, one of which is VP.Polar who only have 3 official players at the moment, but are using by fng and ua Mag as stand-ins. The western division of the D2L started on November 2nd.
