IAP upset Titan to qualify for Starseries X

posted by Matthew Elmas,
ph Inter active Philippines have caused an upset in tonight’s Starladder SEA tiebreaker, defeating both my Titan and my Johny’s Revenge to become the first Southeast Asian team to attend the Kiev LAN. They are now the fourth team to qualify for the LAN finals, with only the European qualifiers remaining undecided.

The newly relocated rosh pit facilitated some exciting teamfights.

IAP beat the odds
Before tonight's clash Inter Active Philippines had never before beaten Titan's newly reformed roster.Despite their dominant performance throughout the Starladder group stage IAP were the underdogs coming into tonight’s clash versus Titan. However, after making quick work of Johny’s Revenge they overcame the Malaysian veterans in a thrilling 63 minute clash.

The game itself was indicative of the 6.82 meta-game, and as the match spiralled into a back and forth nail-biter, the gold graph began resembling a mountain range. In the end it was TNC.BISON who made the difference for the IAP squad, tanking through the Titan offensive with a formidable Death Prophet.

However their eventual victory was by no means easy, with both casters unsure who would emerge victorious until the very end. All in all, the entire match was a great example of exciting Southeast Asian Dota as players and teams come to terms with the latest patch.

Before their victory against Titan IAP also managed to overcome Johny’s Revenge, taking the game convincingly in only 29 minutes. IAP's dominating performance can be credited to a skilfully piloted Drow Ranger by Foxx and TNC.BISON's Viper, who racked up 14 kills with the benefit of Precision Aura. This comes after JR managed to defeat IAP only two days ago, causing the three way tie that resulted in tonight’s matches (see our match recap here).

TNC.BISON tanks Titan's entire combo

IAP will now advance to compete on the international stage against the likes of cn Newbee, cn Vici Gaming and us Evil Geniuses this October. They will come into the LAN as the underdogs, but with teams scrambling to understand the 6.82 meta-game they stand a good chance to cause another upset. In light of their qualification Execration Dota 2 have expressed excitement at the idea of experiencing the European scene on their facebook page.

Looking back as the qualifiers conclude.

There are now only four more positions available for the Starseries X LAN finals. With the Chinese, American and now Southeast Asian divisions, concluding their qualifier stages. Europe remains the only region yet to determine their qualifying teams, with less than a weeks worth of games to be played. Expect to see competition heating up between the teams, with the groups remaining remarkably even as the majority of teams still keep their LAN final hopes alive.

The Starseries X LAN finals will begin on the 23rd of October and run for 3 days until the 26th. 8 teams from around the world will participate for a total prize pool of over $250,000 USD. Expect an exciting final as all top TI4 finishing teams have already qualified.
