Valve's new DPC league system may make third party events more difficult to pull off. Will we not see any during the regular DPC season? The 2021 Dota Pro Circuit hasn't even really begun, but the community is already raising more and more concerns daily. While Otávio 'tavo' Gabriel called out Valve for its invite policy, which makes it impossible to qualify for the upper divisions in most regions, there are voices that criticise the league system in general.

Quincy Crew manager Jack 'KBBQ' Chen shared his concerns on Twitter stating:

During the DPC seasons which last for six weeks each, KBBQ and others expect that third party events won't take place, as the most prestigious teams may be committed to the league. As a result, sponsors won't invest into the scene and teams that don't play DPC don't get a chance to make a living. KBBQ isn't alone with his opinion. Muriëlle 'Kips' Huisman reacted to his tweet and explained:

This is insanely few games, huge decrease in the fidelity of rankings, huge decrease in sponsor exposure, and months of unemployment for any player or caster not included in the DPC.

Fewer opportunities for teams outside the DPC?

What is more, we simply don't know yet whether or not DPC teams and their players are allowed to take part in third party events during the season. Apart from organisational issues, this could simply ban the top teams from other competitions. In the blog post from February 2020, when the new system was originally introduced it says: "Dates outside of this range will be available for third party tournaments." If this regulation is still in place, there are very few options for third party tournaments to take place before TI10. The biggest window for an event would be sometime between the second Major in June and The International in August, or even only after that.
