Valve released the 7.25c gameplay update on Tuesday and the new patch is packed with nerfs – and a potentially problematic picking phase. The patch notes start with two general changes concerning the pick-and-ban-phase:

  • When two players pick the same hero in a round, the hero is banned instead and the round restarts
  • All Pick hero selection duration reduced from 25 to 20 seconds

According to Reddit user GoldenKettle, the new system bears a giant problem. In worst-case scenario, banning restarts so many times, that eventually all heroes are banned and no hero is left to be picked. The players were not able to choose any hero and could not random either, even when the Gold count hit zero.

Who needs regeneration?

Interestingly, every item that grants some form of health regeneration has been nerfed. Either the health regeneration by itself has been reduced, or the recipe cost were increased. This change heavily affects support players who might have to tweak their builds now.

Meepo has to go back underground

Meepo the Geomancer has been a comparably popular pick recently and was played 995,475 times in the last month according to Dotabuff. The hero has received two big nerfs with his base agility being reduced by 7 and his cloning ability Divided We Stand now requiring higher levels.

Meepo is not the only hero that suffered nerfs, in fact, the new patch is all about nerfing. You can find all patch notes in detail here.

Fluff: Dota host Sheever has another small remark on the changes. Due to the selection time being shorter, she will most likely not be able to get her coffee before the game – which can be essential before some matches.

What do you think of the new patch?
