All around the world, Closed Qualifiers for The Chongqing Major are under way. Three regions have already completed their events, meaning we now know six teams who are on the plane to China next month.

Former paiN-X side join old employers in China

Quinn 'CCnC' Callahan and his mostly-American test 123 side were the first to qualify from South America for The Chongqing Major. They claimed a comeback win over old employers paiN Gaming* in the Winners’ Finals, having dropped the first game.

paiN then went on to defeat Thunder Predator in the Losers’ Finals to claim the second spot. They won 2-0 over a team who had come from the Open Qualifiers to reach touching distance of China.

Both test 123 and paiN Gaming finished top of their groups with perfect records, while another South American mainstay, Infamous, failed to make it to the Playoff stage.

Virtus.pro face scare in qualifier bid

In the CIS region, qualification was not straightforward for Kuala Lumpur Major winners Virtus.pro. Despite breezing through their group, and taking down Team Empire Hope in the semi-finals, they fell to NoPangolier in the Grand Finals.

They were then forced into a decider in the Losers’ Finals, taking on AS Monaco Gambit. Despite Game 1 being somewhat straightforward, they were made to work in Game 2. However, they pulled through, overturning a Gambit advantage to book their tickets to China.

It was a nervy end to what had been a comfortable tournament, one which had seen Natus Vincere fall in the Group Stage.

As you were in SEA

The Southeast Asia Qualifier offered no shocks, with Fnatic and TNC Predator taking the places in China. Neither team finished with a perfect 4-0 record in the groups, but made it out with relative ease.

In Group A, TNC continued their good form, but were made to work for a comeback win in their opener against Vietnamese qualifiers 496 Gaming. They then obliterated Mineski in the Winners’ Final, with both games in their 2-0 win totalling just 46 minutes. Another straightforward win saw them move past BOOM Esports into the Winners’ Finals.

For Fnatic, things got off to a rapid start against BOOM ID. Next was a closely fought match against Moonmeander’s Tigers, which they won to set up a clash with TNC — which they also won to seal their spot in China.

For TNC, it meant a rematch with Mineski. This time it wasn’t so easy, as pieliedie’s side took the first game. However, a pair of scrappy wins saw them make it through.

Who else do you think will join them in China?
