ESL One returns to Birmingham in 2019

Earlier in May this year, Birmingham hosted an ESL One event for the first time ever. The tournament was a big success. On Thursday, the ESL announced that the event series will return to the British metropolis in 2019.
The ESL One Birmingham 2019 will take place from May 31 - June 2 in the Arena Birmingham. The group stage will be played out from May 28 - May 30. 12 teams from all over the world will fight for the title and an overall prize pool of $300,000. 8 of these teams will make it into the Arena.

The first edition of the ESL One Birmingham became the fastest selling Dota 2 event ever. The fans at the venue and in front of their monitors at home witnessed sweeping OpTic Gaming with a clean 3-0.

James Dean, Managing Director at ESL UK, about the tournament returning to the British city:

We witnessed unimaginable levels of support from the UK community which genuinely surprised us all earlier this year. We’re working on implementing improvements and some additional surprise features based on superb feedback from the community this year.

In March and April 2019, teams will be able to participate in open qualifiers in Europe, North America, China and Southeast Asia. The actual ESL One Birmingham will have the same format as the ESL One Hamburg 2018 at the end of last month. Tickets will be available on November 15.

Of course, there'll be much more than just top-notch Dota 2 action. For example, you can enter the cosplay contest. The winner will be part of the trophy ceremony at the very end of the Dota 2 tournament. The ESL wants to release more details in the future.
