TI winner gives 5hr interview covering entire career

posted by mikekoch,
A few years ago, the playing career of Sebastien 'Ceb' Debs looked to be over. He had given up the keyboard and mouse for the analyst desk, and later was hired as coach of OG. However, he made a playing comeback, going on to winThe International 2018. Thorin interviews Ceb at length in a special edition of his 'Reflections' series.

Duncan "Thorin" Shields is one of the most well-known figures in esports. He started as an interviewer and journalist in the early days of esports, also working as a freelance analyst. As a content creator he's known in the Quake, CS:GO, League of Legends and StarCraft scenes. However sometimes he interviews Dota 2 players — in this case he catched Sebastien 'Ceb' Debs.

Thorin refers to himself an the 'Esports Historian,' and in his interview he didn't just speak with the Frenchman about his win at The International 2018 The interview is split into two parts with a total runtime of almost five hours, and covers Ceb's long career in esports.

Part 1: From DotA to Kaipi — Ceb's first professional career

In the first part, the interview concentrates on Ceb's career as a DotA and Dota 2 player before he stopped playing in 2016. Especially interesting for "younger fans" who didn't actually follow the scene back then is the part about DotA, not just because we are given more information about Ceb's career, but because Thorin also gives us his view from the outside on how DotA was seen back then.

Part 2: From coaching to winning TI — Ceb's OG career

To make the perfect cut for the five hour long interview, the second part talks only about Ceb's career since taking the role of OG coach in 2016. This makes sense, as it is the part of his career even fresh Dota 2 fans know about.

In it, they discuss his coaching, the different OG rosters, and finally about his transition back to a player. The focus of this part of the interview is clearly The International 2018, their victory and how they got there.
