VGJ.Storm and Secret win to make top eight

posted by Olucaron,
On Day Three of The International 2018 Main Event we started off with the Lower Bracket. VGJ.Storm took on the plucky CIS roster of Winstrike, while Team Secret faced off against the Chinese of Vici Gaming. With their TI8 lives on the line, who would win out?

North Americans take straightforward series

In a pair of matches lasting just over an hour in total, VGJ.Storm took down Winstrike to secure their place in the top eight and send the CIS team home. As he has done so many times in this tournament, Roman 'Resolut1on' Fominok stepped up to the plate alongside Yawar 'YawaR' Hassan, as they worked together to devastate the Winstrike roster and end with a combined KDA of 32-4-26.

The second game began in bizarre circumstances, with Alexander 'Nofear' Churochkin living up to his name and being caught out by a VGJ triple threat before the clock had even begun ticking. However, Aleksey 'nongrata / superpro' Vasiliev had other ideas, denying the first blood and saving his side a little embarrassment. While Winstrike built an early advantage, normal service soon resumed as some costly deaths on the 12-munite mark handed VGJ a lead they never surrendered.

Secret send Vici packing

Game 1 of the series between Team Secret and Vici Gaming had the crowd in raptures. In an epic battle that lasted just short of a full hour, the advantage swung back and forward between the two sides, with midlaner Zeng 'Ori' Jiaoyang and support Zhi Cheng 'LaNm' Zhang proving to be the difference – this superb Echo Slam prediction being just one of the epic plays on show as they sealed the win after a monstrous teamfight.

Secret weren’t done, though, and forced the first Game 3 of the Main Stage by polishing off Vici in just over half an hour. Adrian 'Fata' Trinks led the way in kills, while Secret led the entire game. Yeik Nai 'MidOne' Zheng then pulled off a triple kill in a great counter-skirmish to cement the win and keep their Aegis hopes alive.

And so, to Game 3. For the first twenty minutes the game was somewhat even, with melees breaking out and the lead changing hands several times. However, it was the European side who wanted the win more, with Fata again taking control of matters. After those early skirmishes Secret gave up just five more deaths while reaping 17 from their opponents as they asserted their dominance, completing the reverse sweep to send the Chinese packing.

What was your highlight moment of the two Lower Bracket matches?
