Natus Vincere have been knocked out of the second CIS Open Qualifiers, ending all hope of a place at TI8.

Second Open Qualifier exit spells the end for Na'Vi's TI hopes

In the first round CIS Open Qualifiers, Natus Vincere did reach the bo3 rounds but were taken apart by Espada 2-0. Meanwhile in their second Open Qualifier run earlier today, they were taken out in the round of 32.

This will be the second year in a row that Natus Vincere have not made it to TI. TI7 was the first time the CIS organisation did not grace the event, although Danil 'Dendi' Ishutin did join as a guest in the OpenAI 1 v 1 bot match on stage.

Last minute roster change the cause of Open Qualifier journey

Over the course of the year Na'Vi made two big roster changes. The first was to let go of Vladimir 'RodjER' Nikogosyan, in what would end up as a straight player swap with Virtus.pro. Rodjer joined VP and went on to win 2 Majors within a month of joining, while Ilya 'Lil' Ilyuk's addition to Na'Vi unfortunately never led to any noteworthy results outside of a top 4 at the GESC Minor in Indonesia.

After becoming aware that their chances of a direct invite to TI8 via DPC Points were slim, Na'Vi made their second roster change last month, letting go of Nikola 'LeBronDota' Popovic to make room for Fedor 'velheor' Rusihin.

The roster change led to Na'Vi not only forfeiting their place at the Birmingham Major, but also forfeiting any chance of an invite to the CIS Regionals directly, meaning their TI qualification journey would have to start with Open Qualifiers. Unfortunately for Na'Vi, they were unable to obtain any of the six Regional invites from the Open Qualifiers.

Na'Vi attended the Super Major with their new roster, but placed 13-16th after defeat to Vici Gaming

Lil apologises and says he is "deeply embarassed" by the result

Shortly after today's shocking result, LiL made a post on his Instagram, mentioning how earlier on in the season he had lifted a trophy on stage at the Major, but now ends up missing the biggest tournament of the year after elimination in the Open Qualifiers.

"I'd like to apologize to my fans," said LiL on Instagram. "Those people that supported me for this entire time(I know that you are out there). I'd also like to apologize to all the fans of the Na'Vi tag, which for many is more than just a combination of 4 letters. I'd like to also apologize before my current and former teammates, and I'm pretty sure there is plenty to apologize for."

Lil went on to say he felt "deeply embarassed" by the result and added that in the end "everyone gets what he deserves". What happens next for Na'Vi is a mystery, but the team underwent major changes last year after they failed to qualify for TI7, and it seems highly probable that the team will go undergo change over the summer.
