Day 4 of the Major approaches, here's a summary of how things stand at the moment.
The groupstage standings heading into Day 4 of the EPICENTER XL Major (View rankings)

The EPICENTER XL Major groupstage will start to heat up later today as we're now into Day 4. The format of the groupstage will see the bottom two of both groups eliminated leaving only 8 teams left for the main event to be held in the Ice Palace in Moscow.

The top two finishers in the group qualify for the upper-bracket of the main event while the 3rd-4th finishers head to the lower-bracket. So far all 12 teams have played 2 matches but several teams are already in danger, and today is when the prospect of missing the main event begins to become a reality.

Group A: Mineski fall behind as Fly To Moon soar

In Group A the big surprise so far has been the exceptional performance of Winstrike who sit top of Group A after a big 2-1 win over Mineski. Mineski are currently 0-2 but have already played PSG.LGD and face two easier opponents next compLexity Gaming and Team Empire. Mineski are therefore likely to still be a solid contender for the 3rd-4th place in group A despite a slow start.

Team Empire on the other hand play the very formidable PSG.LGD next, and even with the Chinese team losing to Team Liquid 2-1 earlier today, it will still be a tall ask for Empire to conjure up a victory.

Day 4 match to watch in Group A: Winstrike vs Team Liquid (Match Page)

The winner of this match could be guaranteed a spot in the main event but it will be more interesting to see how Fly To Moon match up against an even higher calibre of team. Victory over Team Liquid today would almost certainly cement Fly to Moon's groupstage so far as being more than a fluke.

Group B: Newbee could not make it to the main event

In Group B there are no major surprises as despite Newbee being ranked 5th in the DPC Rankings, their poor form recently led to them being marked favourites to struggle alongside paiN Gaming*. The only slightly unexpected result in Group B so far was Team Secret losing to Na'Vi 2-1, a series which featured an unorthodox draft by Team Secret in game 1 which included Doom, Wraith King and Techies. Newbee are 0-2 but face PaiN and Na'Vi next, before finishing their group with a match against OG. They can't afford to drop any more matches.

Match to watch out for in Group B: Team Secret vs OG (Match page)

OG are 2-0 in group B so far but this encounter with Team Secret is going to be a great test of whether Sebastien 'Ceb' Debs could function as OG's official mid player against the best of the best. So far OG beat Na'Vi and Pain but it's Secret later today followed by Virtus Pro tomorrow. Will OG go up or go down?
