The Chinese distributor of Dota 2, Perfect World, along with the Chinese production company responsible for G-League, Gamefy, have announced during a press conference earlier today that they will be holding a 1,000,000 RMB (~$160,823) league, which may kick off sometime around the mid year according to GosuGamers.

Few details have been revealed, but this prizepool will make the competition the largest single event on the Dota 2 calender outside of The International and is sure to attract the attention of Western teams as well.

Such a competition with international appeal may also change the dynamic leading up to the next International, as western teams taking part in the competition would more than likely be obliged to spend a fairly extensive period of time bootcamping in China, leading to far greater intermingling of the top teams from around the world.

What the implications of this will be for western events such as DreamHack Summer as well as Western online competitions is yet to be seen, but if big name teams such as ua Na`Vi, us Team Liquid or eu Fnatic.EU were to exit the scene for a months time, the viewerships of Western competitions would likely suffer, which may either encourage sponsors to try and compete with the Chinese or to withdraw their funding if they feel they are not seeing sufficient returns.
