By day Herry Lim is your usual office worker but by night he invests his time into cosplay. We spoke to the Indonesian about his recent Disruptor cosplay. We fell in love with LIM Cosplay's work, to find out more about him check out our interview 👉 https://t.co/u0pxRfzY8e pic.twitter.com/0WZjIh3f3H— joinDOTA (@joinDOTA) 4 November 2016

Office worker by day, cosplayer by night
Last month we highlighted on our social media a cosplayer who had put together his very own Disruptor, and he went on to place 3rd at the Indonesia ComicCon last month.

Herry Lim is a 26-year old from Indonesia who does cosplay as a break from his rather mundane office job. "It's become a breather for me since I'm an office worker," said Lim. "We all know how mind consuming that is."

Herry Lim spent his evenings after work as well as his holidays working on the costume, investing around 6 hours a day for an entire month in order to complete it. "The main materials that I used are poly foam, sponge, and some metals rod for te base. This project is quite high priced since I chose the best materials I can get for durability and best performance," said Lim.

"Dota 2 has so many cool characters and it was hard to decide to do Disruptor. I was initially planning to do TerrorBlade, But in the end I chose Disruptor because I wanted to challenge myself to make a higher level of difficulties in costume making," said Lim. "The basics are actually from dinosaur robot structures and dinosaur cosplayers, but I also added my own self-made techniques."

"The upper part was the most trickiest because I have to figure out the moving parts yet also keep in mind for the weights plus I have to count for the proportions of the overall body and the mount!" What part do you like best? "The monster head of course!!! And those feathers are quite catchy," said Lim.

Indonesia ComicCon
At ICC2016 Lim went as Prime Evil from Diablo 3, and he came terribly close to winning the competition. "I got 2nd place last year, that was a hard game. So many awsome cosplayers out there but it's not gonna stop me from keep on paving my road to my masterpieces, infact it gave fuel to my fire to keep on upgrade my skills," said Lim.

Lim's Disruptor cosplay ended up placing top 3 at the ICC2016. "It went well well but my disruptor was 3rd place in indonesia ComicCon. It was a tough fight. In indonesia its not enough to win with just super big and super detailed costume that can walk around, we have to be able to performing something on stage to entertain the audienc e(like doing an action battle, etc)," said Lim.

The competition was ultimately won by Rathalos from Monster Hunter cosplay, the fantasy-themed action RPG series created by Capcom. "The Rathalos finished 1st place overall, my armour won on costume points but sadly lost in stage performance."

Optimus Prime finished second at ICC2016

A performance on stage has become a required part of cosplay competitions, we asked Lim how he felt about that ahead of ICC2016. "I think a good costume is one of the important point on cosplay but we also have to keep in mind of the character that we want to play it.

"There are limitations such as flying type or underwater characters which is made more harder for the players to play the characters and make the audiences to feels engrossed by the performance, how similar to the real characters they actually are."

Herry Lim thinks the need for a "performance" limits cosplay designs
After his third place at ICC2016 we asked Lim his thoughts about the need to perform when competing in a cosplay competition.

"I think the Indonesian ComicCon cosplay competition is quite interesting because the scoring on the stage for performance is very important too, so for people like me who wearing highly complicated and big sized costume you won't be able to give much performance in not so big stage."

I was so focused on the details in order to make my costume real-like but it was not enough to satisfy the audience for lack of stage performance..."

"I don't really agree with the rules that you have to give a plausible stage performances to the audience since from what i know of other countries, the judges only mainly judge the costumes but not the performance.

"Because if we are making costumes for performances we have to sacrifice some details and size to satisfy the minimum requirements for agility to do a highly plausible performance.

Sadly I couldn't do much of a performance which is why I only got the 3rd place, which is a pity because I really tried my best to make the costume highly detailed."

We think LimCosplay should still be incredibly proud of his efforts, clearly going down as the best Disruptor cosplay ever (SirActionSlacks came close though). LimCosplay's next goal is to attend an international event with one of his cosplays, and hopes he can attend the next Summit.
