We bid farewell to Capitalist as he embarks on a solo adventure

joinDOTA bids farewell to Capitalist after a brilliant 3 years
Austin "Capitalist" Walsh was unveiled as joinDOTA's second commentator in November 2013, and was an unknown caster outside of NA at the time. However, TobiWan in the official announcement unveiling the new addition said that Capitalist "really has the potential to be one of the best casters in the scene", and he was completely right.

Over the course of his time at joinDOTA and Freaks 4U Gaming, Austin has grown to become one of the premier Dota 2 casters in the scene, but after almost 3 years living in Berlin, we have respected his wishes to return to live closer to his family in the States and pursue the next stage of his career as an independent caster and talent.

joinDOTA's Project Manager de Raphael Baur had this to say about Austin's departure:

Austin laid out a lot of his reasoning behind his decision, and at the time he approached us over his desire to move back to the US and go independent, it seemed to us that he just reached a point in his life where he wants to be near his friends and family in the US while taking over direct responsibility over his career.

While it’s hard for us to see him go, we still want to make sure that everyone understands that we part ways on good terms and will continue to work with Austin on future projects inside and maybe even outside of Dota 2. I personally and everyone here wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

us Capitalist also posted a very lengthy blog post on his Facebook page so that his fans can learn more of his decision and his plans going forward. Below is an extract:

"Over the course of the last year or so, I’ve grown increasingly restless with my life in Germany. I set out with a certain list of goals when I joined Freaks4U and I’ve accomplished most of those, thanks in a large part to their help.

"All of my goals were very career-oriented & focused furthering my progression as a commentator & talent for Dota 2 with a small contingent focused towards the distant future outside of the game. However, this has come at the cost of my personal life, which is has suffered so far away from home in a country I’m not very integrated in (due to no one's fault but my own). I’ve decided to return home where I can be close to my family.

The second reason I’ve decided to leave has to do with my career in esports. The more I’ve accomplished as a caster, the more I’ve worried about my future in this industry. This comes, in large part because I have no fallback options.

I dropped out of college to join the military and I dropped out of the military (early discharge) to move to Germany and become a caster. If this career doesn’t succeed, I don’t have many other options other than starting fresh once again. With every milestone I’ve reached, it further amplifies that my situation & future has not changed and remains just as uncertain as it’s always been.

I have not been able to build anything that would truly last if Dota were to die tomorrow. This is why it’s always been important for me to diversify my talents in hosting/paneling/etc and to be able to build something outside of esports so I have something to rely upon."

We would like to thank Austin for his years of service and it has been a privilege to watch a talent we picked from obscurity climb his way up the ladder to become one of the best casters in the scene. From everyone at joinDOTA and Freaks 4U Gaming, we would like to wish him all the best in all his future endeavours.
