History:

Evil Geniuses.DotA can be tracked back to the times of the original DotA: Allstars, when in April 12, 2008 one of the pioneering North-American gaming organizations brought under its wing the team from eMazing.DotA, which consisted of seven members: Pu 'Whisper' Liu, David 'King' Liu, Matt 'DOGKaiser' Knizacky, Hassan 'Remstar' Bahr, Andre 'O' Semmler, Christopher 'Lopi' Spehn and Bryce 'OrgA' Johnson. The team did very well, especially in the North-American scene by winning once great competitions such as the CEVO-Professional Season 1 and their debut international tournament, Farm 4 Fame.

The team entered a period of inactivity for some months, but returned with some of the old players. However, their line-up at the time could not retrieve the team's former glory. After participating on some tournaments and achieving decent standings, such as their 3rd places at IDEC End of Time and ESL Major Series Season 4, the team was at its final legs. On December 3rd, 2009, after two months of lackluster practice and rarely participating on competitions, the team officially disbanded.

When Dota 2 was on its starting weeks, around the 24th of October of 2011 Evil Geniuses acquired a new team for Dota 2. The team roster consisted of Amel 'PlaymatE' Barudzija, Jimmy 'DeMoN' Ho, Rasmus 'MiSeRy' Berth Filipsen, Clinton 'Fear' Loomis and Pers Anders 'Pajkatt' Olsson Lille. The team was quickly gathered and sent to China for a boot-camp, where they would train in order to participate in a series of tournaments. MiSeRy and PlaymatE were both team members of MeetYourMakers, arguably one of the best teams of DotA: Allstars at its time. After The International 1, however, the team disbanded.

After their stay on China, the team returned with fresh ideas and another team change - Per Anders 'Pajkatt' Olsson Lille had decided to leave the team, leaving them with only four players. Perhaps seeing there an opportunity to meet old friends, the team invited other two former MeetYourMakers team members to the roster, Dominik 'Lacoste' Stipic and Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Andersen.

Following these roster changes, the team went on to do very well on an international scale, taking part on prestigious joinDOTA championships such as The Defense Season 1, where they scored 3rd place and joinDOTA Masters I, where they got a much deserving 1st place. Another remarkable competition was the Team Dignitas Invitational, where they also took 1st place.

However nothing sweet endures forever. Perhaps due to the distance between the team members, on the 8th of May 2012, the danish players Rasmus 'MiSeRy-' Felipsen, Amel 'PlaymatE' Barudzija and Dominik 'Lacoste' Stipik decided to leave Evil Geniuses and move to other teams. However, the change only happened when substitutes were found and properly evaluated. The team went back to the 5-men format as Sam 'Bulba' Sosale and Saahil 'Universe' Arora joined EG, forming the roster that we know today.

The new and refreshed Evil Geniuses, under the leadership of Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Andersen, went on to brave the international waters again, achieving 3rd place during the Dreamhack Summer 2012 Vengeance Cup. Back on North-American soil, the team also scored a 1st place during It's Gosu Monthly Madness Season II and very recently a 2nd place on ECAL Americas League. Now The International 2 looms before them...

Roster:

(Clicking on the individual hero icons will take you to that hero's profile in our database!)

Maelk (Captain)
dk Jacob Toft-Andersen

The man who stood alongside others in the fabled Danish team MeetYourMakers, he is a veteran of Dota. Being in the scene for so long, he has seen and experienced an enormous amount of games, learning much and developing uncountable strategies. Unlike his peers who moved to European teams, Maelk decided to stay and keep Evil Geniuses up and running. Quick on the fingers and mixing the European style with the North-American, he mostly plays the role of support and ganker.

Fear
us Clinton Loomis

Alongside with Maelk, Fear also was part of the MeetYourMakers, continuing to gain experience in the world of DotA. Also a former member of OK.Nirvana.Int, Fear has immense experience with carrying his team to victory. His most effective heroes include Morphling, Slardar, Lone Druid and Bounty Hunter. A thoughtful person, Fear has many fans - especially since he has been playing Dota for such a long time!

DeMoN
us Jimmy Ho

Hailing back from Vietnam, DeMoN is another veteran from the world of DotA. Active and with a playful rivalry with Fear, DeMoN has been of great help to Evil Geniuses by being a very flexible player, being able to play as a support, carry, ganker or anything that EG needs. Lately, he has become very famous due to his Beastmaster and Shadow Shaman plays, being able to go solo lane against almost anything.

Bulba
us Sam Sosale

Bulba is very well known for his middle lane soloing. Even though he is very flexible, he plays a bigger role standing by himself as Tinker or Invoker. His efficiency with Tinker alone has crumbled many teams' pushes. Bulba is also known for co-casting with 'Ayessee' from It's Gosu, whose team he also previously took part with. While definitively not as experienced as most of the other members, Bulba has been making enormous progress and can stand now as an equal to his fellow team members.

Signature heroes: :d2_tin: :d2_inv:

Universe
us Saahil Arora

Universe was once a fellow team member of OK.Nirvana.int, alongside with Fear and later ex-GoSu, together with Bulba, so it really is very interesting that all three has come together in Evil Geniuses, a fact that most likely has helped with the team's synergy. Universe is well known for being the crew's disabler, often picking heroes such as Tidehunter and Shadow Demon. He also shares some of Bulba's humbleness, which gives him a calm impression.
Chances at The International:
Deceptively medium. Evil Geniuses is indeed a strong team with tons of experience, but they seem to be lagging behind their peers as of late, such as compLexity Gaming and POTM Bottom. Even though they did well during the ECAL: America, their performance during The Defense Season II could have been better. Furthermore, many of their matches were, as of late, against western teams, not considering possible friendly matches. The team might have trouble against Eastern teams unless they have been secretly training for this occasion.
