BuLba: New Quantic is a lot more versatile
posted by Jaywalker, 288 days ago

Evil Geniuses has always been one of the best teams in the world, and their recent performances has ascertained their dominance in the competitive scene. As one of the six remaining teams in The Defense, EG is one of four North American teams remaining in the competition, a testimony to the region's recent supremacy. In an interview with
Evil Geniuses,
Sam 'BuLba' Sosale talks about the team's run in The Defense, their expectations up against
Quantic Gaming, adaptation to new strategies, and more.
Your run in the [Defense] playoffs has been very impressive. EG beat aL, mTw and now SGC 2-0. But before getting to that I want to know about the group stages. What happened in the group? You guys went 3-0 – top of your group – beating WhA, Infused and zNation, but then you weren’t able to close it out against mouz and Darer. What went wrong in the groups?
At the time we played mouz and Darer we had barely practiced with our full roster and had taken a break after DreamHack for some personal reasons among a few team members. It was unfortunate to make it through the Losers bracket, so everything was at risk in every match we played in the playoffs.
As I mentioned in the previous question. Your run in the playoffs have been very impressive. From crushing aL with a Templar Assassin on carry, out playing mTw and now SGC. What has changed from you guys that has led to such success?
Practice and better picks helped a lot. We were also confident unlike the matches versus Mouz and Darer, because we had our full roster. We got all the personal, real life issues out, of the picture and just played to win without the distractions.
Your next match is going to be against Quantic. This is a team that EG has traded many blows with. But the last time EG faced Quantic was in the ProDOTA2 League, where they won. What do you think of the new Quantic team? What do you think EG’s chances are against them?
The new Quantic is a lot more versatile. I’ve seen them run line-ups out of the old Quantic’s comfort zone. Brax has been a long-time friend of mine and it’s nice to see him doing well . At the moment, I am pretty confident versus Quantic because of our practice. We have a lot of heroes that we can use and Quantic’s play style is pretty predictable still. Also, the fact that it is a best-of-3 helps since we do the best in those and not silly best-of-one games.
Evil Geniuses will play Quantic Gaming on August 7th, 2012 at 20:00 CEST. You can find out more about The Defense here.

@ #2, They have to be predictable because if they don't choose Morphling then they can't win. Bring on the hate Quantic fans.

Typical EG all talk. At the very least they have SOME results to back it up now. That being said, I feel like their wins in the defence werent all that impressive. aL have been way off target for ages now, SGC is a tier two up and coming team with alot of work to do and mtw just played like spastics - I think they were testing new player roles/heroes at the very beginning of the bootcamp. No secret I dont like EG and I think they have been the weakest NA team for awhile leading up to this, but theyve been praccing a bunch for TI2 so I guess they'll have that over Quantic. Come on Quantic boys :)

#6 Quantic got wrecked in the TI2 qualifier, how could they even be better then a team who beat mTw, they are now better but i think they cant contend against coL and PB

Well I think quantic is maybe #2 or #3 in the USA why they didn't receive a invite to TI2 over COL is weird I prefered them over the Quantic and of course bulbs knows their style they were teammates back when its gosu was a team lol

Thoughts about Quantic, Bulba? :D
#6 You have definitely a point.
I think Maelk is an amazing captain/drafter but I don't like the rest of the Team. They always trashtalk and then they just suck. But as they are at their Bootcamp I think they will beat Qantic.

Quantic is #4 in the USA--EG, coL, and PB are all better than Quantic.
Quantic is good but they come up just short of TI2-caliber. It's POSSIBLE that they still have room to grow but I think they're pretty close to their collective skill cap, unlike mouz who have a lot of room to get better still.

For people that think EG are trashtalkers, you do realize they are just being playful and sarcastic. I thought it was pretty obvious.

Someone's a little butthurt. Thankfully, I don't need to humor you as EG is about to stomp you and prove me right.

Mikey, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you misinterpreted what I was saying. First, I never said your team is bad; I said you're pretty good. Second, I said that EG, coL, and PB are better than your team; given that your team has recently lost to all three of those teams (I'm taking your imminent loss to EG into account), I have no problem saying this. Third, I said you are not a TI2-caliber team. I don't think you are; I think that if you guys were to compete in TI2 you guys would place at or near last. Fourth, I said that I think you guys are near your skill caps. You're going to tell me that Korok has room to become an even BETTER player than he already is? Dubious assertion. I'd say he rocks right now and he's only going to continue rocking. Fifth, I didn't say mouz is good, I said mouz has room to BECOME good. SingSing and SexyBamboe, for example, have solid technical ability but are competitively inexperienced. This means that, as they acquire more experience, the return that is reflected in their play will be greater than the return that would be reflected in the play of the more experienced players in your team; eg, diminishing returns.
6 months from now, ceteris paribus, Korok will have become a MARGINALLY better player, whereas Sing and Bamboe will have become SUBSTANTIALLY better players. Comprende?
