No new heroes until TI finishes

posted by Tezzeret, 300 days ago
It is Friday (or Thursday depending where you are from) which means the main client has now been updated with the new heroes. This also marks the last of hero additions, at least until The International concludes, as indicated in a blogpost by Valve.

With The International arriving in just over a month, we want to give the competing teams some time to practice with a stable Hero roster, and as few new bugs from us as possible. With that in mind, after today’s update we’ll be clamping things down a tad, focusing on getting the existing feature and hero set polished to a high sheen. Fear not, we will continue to work on new heroes internally, getting them ready for a release once The International is over.

With a more stable and fixed hero pool to train with, teams can experiment with new lineups until The International, as well as discover weaknesses in other line ups.

They had said since 2 months that around 15 heroes will be missing from TI.

They had said all but 10 or 15 by the time TI2 hit, so I don't think they ever expected to have them all in.

Valve initially said around two months ago that all but 5-10 heroes would be added into the game by the time of TI2, not all but 10-15--meaning they are coming up short on their promise. But that's just typical Valve. They also said back in September 2011 that they would be bringing the game out of its invite-only stage and opening it up to the public immediately. Fast forward one year? ...yeah. Also a few months ago some dev said that Dota 2 isn't a beta anymore, which it 100% still is. This is just Valve being Valve, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Time#Valve_Time

It'll get done eventually, so no long-term worries.

I'm kinda sad about this, but at least they have time to get the characters done and balanced, and hopefully release a crap ton of them in November.

Reconsider at least Centaur and Magnataur only please! These two heroes have a decent picking percentage in professional competitions in Dota 1, and I'm pretty sure that these two heroes would be gladly picked by most if not all of the invited teams, especially the Chinese teams... :)
