joinDOTA Tournaments - A lazy man's guide
posted by nincompoop, 1 year ago
For everyone out there who is participating in our very own competitions, we are proud to present you our tournament system, which ensures a smooth process for every team involved and which is a dream for every overworked admin.
After experiencing the first tournament for Europeans and Americans, we noticed that not every team took the time to look at our system. Hence we decided to publish a small and comprehensive guide and without many words we would like to introduce you to our grid:
Grid & Matchpage

As you can see, it doesn't look like your normal grid, but for a reason! This grid was designed to save your time: It is not layered in trees as most other grids are, instead the system will put your team up against the next team that finishes the round, i.e. you are less likely to wait for hours and hours for your next opponent.
At the same time the system forces seeded teams not to play against each other until there is no other option (If an unseeded team defeats a seeded team, the victor will take over the seed).
Please make sure that every communication with your opponent happens via the matchpage shown above in the picture. This way the admins can follow the match's progress and at the same communicate with both teams.
Of course the matchpages won't answer all your questions and that is exactly why we would like to introduce you to our support ticket system:
Support system

For any questions, please use the simple form provided when you create a support ticket. Please do NOT forget to select a category from the dropdown menu, this is crucial for us admins in order to solve your problem faster. Please also include a link to your matchpage if you do have a problem with a specific match.
Thanks for reading this guide and good luck in our future competitions!

By"put[ting] your team up against the next team that finishes the round", the system actually stimulates people to carry on with the game as much as possible. Usually, the best teams finish a game too fast. If you do so, by using this system, your team is prone to play against a good team as well.
OK, I realize I am not offering any alternative solution here, what makes me sound (read) a bit of a troll. I just wanted, however, to point out the weakspot of the proposed system, which is also the reason a tree-grid is more often employed.
