Gigabyte Dota 2 Masters: groups revealed
posted by Blue_Knight, 1 year ago
The biggest South East Asian online Dota 2 tournament yet is now set to kick off next weekend. Twenty-four of the region's finest teams are poised to duke it out for a $5000 prize pool.
Just in case you missed the trailer the first time
Hosted by Gigabyte and scheduled to run for six weeks, the tournament will initially employ a round-robin format, with the twenty-four teams (two still yet to be decided, by qualifiers) divided into these just confirmed four groups of six:
Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D |
|---|---|---|---|
MiTh.Trust | CLC | TongFu | SQL |
Aeon | MSI EvoGT | Dreamz | Zenith |
EHOME | MUFC | Big Plays | GoG |
DK | Orange | Mineski | Duskbin |
Absolute Legends | StarsBoba | Qualifier 1 | Neolution |
Ritter | LGD | Qualifier 2 | Invasion Red |
After the group stage - from which the top two teams in each will advance into the the Winner's Brackets, and the third and fourth placed into the Loser's Brackets, with the bottom two eliminated entirely - the tournament will switch to a Double Elimination bracket format.
All of the matches will be played as a best-of-three, up until the Grand Final, which will be a best-of-five, with the Winner's Bracket finalist taking a one-game lead into the final showdown. The overall winners will take away a $3000 prize, with $1250 going to the runners-up and $750 for the third-place finishers.
The group stages will begin this coming Sunday, April 29th, and will be complete by May 23rd. An English language stream and commentary of the action will be provided by GosuGamers'
David 'GoDz' Parker, now of course from his new studio in Thailand.

Good to get some proper Asian tournaments, hopefully they'll be up to scratch for TI. Will be interesting to see how the Asian meta/European meta differ, if they're quite drastically different it'll be a big mixup at the big LAN events.

are these groups intentional or random? i don't get why they are letting 2 qualifiers in group C and cramping big names into 2 groups. i doubt the fans wanna see whats-their-name against DK or AL while EHOME just barely failed to advance into the playoffs.

Big plays is from Australia. People shouldn't underestimate teams such as big plays and SQL. They both are both very strong teams comparable tween aL.
