Orange beats MUFC in Razer Invitational

posted by Jaywalker, 1 year ago
The Razer Malaysian Invitational Showcase has come to an end, with my Orange successfully defeating my MUFC. The grand final was held on the 15th of April at Pikom PC Fair, Kuala Lumpur. Although it was supposed to be a Bo3 event, time constraints only allowed for a Bo1 match.

Orange picks and bans

MUFC picks and bans

The game saw Orange opted for a strong burst damage lineup, with Yee Fung 'Mushi' Chai's Queen of Pain dominating the early stages, getting a triple kill. A nice shackleshot from Wei Poong 'Yamateh' Ng's Windrunner ensured a kill on Sand King. Continued mobility dominance allowed Orange to have more map control, and QoP and Windrunner was able to purchase early Necrobooks.

As the game progressed, MUFC found themselves constantly being pressured and having no where to farm. An overconfident Sand King was killed off immediately, forcing him to buyback to no avail. However, it was overconfidence from Orange this time that saw MUFC pick off QoP. Nick 'Silvercross' Lim's Slardar was able to farm up a BKB, and Orange could not bring Slardar down in the fight. Realizing Sand King's detrimental magic damage, QoP opted for a BKB herself, and Orange was able to successfully bring down top rax and avoid any casualties.

Continuous pressure from Orange did not allow much farm on MUFC's heroes

Looking to ascertain their advantage, Orange decided to try and kill off Roshan. Just as Roshan fell and QoP takes the aegis, MUFC initiates with Daniel 'TFG' Wong's Sand King and Slardar, killing off QoP instantly. However, without Enigma's blackhole and better positioning from Orange, MUFC loses three heroes to Orange. Having all five heroes alive, Orange proceeds to end the game through the middle. A 4 man Enigma blackhole was spectacular, but it was too little too late and MUFC calls GG.

Congratulations to Orange, and they walk away with a prize of $2,000 along with Razer merchandise.

Casted by furryfish, me and Bleek. Not the best, but at least there is something. Game starts at around 1.30 hours.

Not that lucky actually. I sort of noticed during their game against Space Monkeys that Orange seems to have adapted a CIS style of play with 1str+4int setup, in particular they seem to be mimicking M5 typical line-ups. Coupled with appropriate gameplay of ganking transitioning into pushing and ending the game early, it's very effective right now.

For sure I was expecting the final to be Bo3 too. But from the picks and bans, and the style of play, I think Orange had MUFC pretty well figured out.
