With The International American qualifiers drawing to a close, dreams have been shattered and compendium predictions have been lost, as world Mousesports* '14-15 depart from the competition. A 2-1 defeat to a promising us North American Rejects* saw Mousesports eliminated in the Lower Bracket final. However, this is the second year in a row that Qojqva, Bulba and Wayto have been defeated by an NAR team. Our #roadtoti5 ends in a tough 1-2 defeat - congrats to former mouz player @MSSDota and his NARv2 team.— mousesports (@mousesports) May 28, 2015
At TI4 us Arif 'MSS' Anwar placed 11/12th with Mousesports

History repeats itself

With this defeat, Mousesports won't be heading to Seattle for the wildcard playoffs, which is not the first time their players have tasted this feeling. At TI4, Team Liquid consisting of us Sam 'Bulba' Sosale, ca Peter 'Waytosexy' Nguyen and de Max 'Qojqva' Broecker, all currently playing for Mousesports, were defeated in the grand finals of the American Qualifiers by the first edition of the NAR side.

The Games

Game 1An early game draft from NAR seemed heavily focussed around magic damage, with an offlane Earthshaker spending the game looking for a dream echo slam. Meanwhile, Black^ on Gyro and Qojqva on Windranger found their farm across the map, with excellent space made by BuLba's Beastmaster and Pieliedie's Bounty Hunter. Mousesports took game 1. Game 2Game 2 saw Mouz dominate the early laning phase, and finding themselves an early lead. An unfortunate dieback from Qojqva's Storm backfired, presenting NAR a lifeline. A utility build from NAR's Bristleback allowed USH on Shadow Fiend to continue to grow, which was the breaking point for Mouz. NAR evened up the series, eventually taking G2. Game 3Mouz appeared confident in their drafting, taking a comfortable Anti-Mage for Black^, and a surprising Winter Wyvern pick. Black^'s farm was unreal, but USH kept on par through kills. As the game went late, NAR got objective after objective, and slowly took map control. An exciting end with buybacks and wipes, NAR take the series.

Internet issues

MSS in Mouz get-up
The upset comes in the wake of Mouz even having a greater advantage. Pre-game internet issues prevented the series from starting for several hours. An internet issue in NYC prevented NAR player MSS from connecting. As a result of the delay, NAR received punishment, a level 3 draft penalty. This meant that during drafting, NAR were not allowed reserve time, and Mousesports had pick priority in every match. This allowed them to decide whether they would be Dire, Radiant, or have first pick or second pick. Despite this advantage, NAR still took the series.
