BUNGiE Pentathlon Features Dota 2

posted by La_DottA, 112 days ago
American video game publisher, Bungie Inc, has announced that it will include Dota 2 as one of nine game titles to be played during its in-house tournament.

The event, known as the Pentathlon, is an annual one-day gaming festival which brings together Bungie staff for a day of play, competition and fun-filled activities.

Pentathlon co-organiser Dave Dunn said,

We’ve jumped up the number of scored events to 9 to try to encourage all the employees to play in something. With so many more people having joined Bungie, we felt we needed more opportunities for people to participate.

This time around, the developers of the smash-hit Halo series wanted to recognise Dota 2's leading role in the Action RTS genre by featuring it in this year's Pentathlon.

In a statement, Bungie said,

Spectate the gilded mediocrity of our DOTA tournament, along with expert color commentary provided by Tobi Wan from JoinDOTA.com.

In conjunction with the event, joinDOTA will be providing coverage for the grand final of the Dota 2 tournament, which will be played on 27th January 2012 after the Defense match at 20:00 CET.

Four teams of Bungie employees will battle each other in a series of games and the winning team will walk away with a championship trophy.

This year's Pentathlon, in its 12th edition, will also feature other famous game titles like Modern Warfare 3 and Forza 4, among others.

Games will be streamed live on joinDOTA as well as on Bungie.net

Guys, not to put a damper on the atmosphere or anything, but this isn't a *huge* deal. Is it great that more and more people/communities are picking up Dota2? Yes, of course! But this event, in itself, does not mean much. Nevertheless, it's a good sign for the future of the game.

I consider myself a fan of the Halo games and of Bungie in general, I'm looking forward to this. I've had the privilege of playing some games with a few Bungie guys during their Dota 2 practices, so entirely from a position of bias I'm rooting for Luke Smith's team.

Shouldn't it be called nonathlon instead if pentathlon? I mean it's nine games, not five.
