In the quite unexpected participants of DreamLeague's winner bracket final of phase 2, ru Virtus Pro and their sister squad ru Virtus Pro.Polar went head-to-head. The two Russian squads provided three intense and entertaining games with enough surprises to knock you off a chair or two. VP.Polar got out on top in the end after some some impressive Magnus play.
Mag's Magnus was a huge factor in Polar's victory

The first game started off very slowly with both teams content with farming for the first couple of minutes and it evolved to a typical 6.82c farmfest that we’ve gotten used to see. What kicked of the action was when VP.Polar, like the flip of a switch started trying to get an advantage by teamfighting VP with their newly acquired items like an Aghanim’s Scepter on the Ogre magi and the Venomancer.

Trade after trade, and a couple of ill-advised buybacks to defend Roshan resulted in VP winning one giant fight outside VP.Polar’s base and the latter had to call gg after 42 minutes. VP classic was now one game away from making it to the top 4.

VP Classic convincingly took game one

The second game showed us two completely different drafts but a similar playstyle. The pick-up that surprise the most was captain by Artem 'fng' Barshack's Keeper of the Light that proved to play a big role in their win. Both teams kicked off the game with minimal amount of ganks and maximum jungle stacking. The first blood comes at 8:20 which gave ua Andrey 'Mag' Chipenko batrider impressively timed Blink Dagger simultaneously with the safelane Slark who picked up a copy of his own. The two Blink brothers rotated cleverly around the map with ru Olexandr 'Dk.Phobos' Kucherya's Templar Assassin who had been farming like a mad man up until that point.

It looked to be going towards a third game, as VP.Polar dominated the early game, building a solid lead in gold and experience. The game seemed to be in VP.Polar's bag as they had a lead that normally would be extremely hard to lose, but the events took quite the wrong turn for them, against all odds. Filled with overconfidence, they started to make reckless decisions and fell one by one in solo adventures that all ended badly for fng and company.

Their difference in networth and experience gained resulted in sweet bounties for VP Classic who's Phantom Assassin suddenly started dishing out ridiculous critical strikes á la Coup de Grace, that took VP by surprise. The tides would turn several times in favor of both teams and VP.Polar could in the end manage to redeem themselves and even out the series, 1-1. It would be a lie to say that this 60 minute Game of Throws wasn't an entertaining spectacle that shaked even the most solid of nerves.

fng was this happy after winning game 2

The deciding and final game of the series had both teams picking up line-ups in their comfort zones. The game commenced with some more aggressive lanes from VP.Polar that got punished by some timely rotations from ru Sergey 'G' Bragin’s Quas Wex Invoker. The game went on with both teams being very close and things started to get really interesting as Mag’s Magnus got a Refresher's Orb and made full use of it by hitting some huge RP’s, winning VP.Polar some big team fights.

These huge victories gave VP.Polar a lot of gold and experience, ultimately leading to them taking the game. After winning this series 2-1 VP.Polar secured themselves a guaranteed top 4 finish and will play us Evil Geniuses tomorrow when phase 3 commences.
